J.J. Abrams Visits The Howard Stern Show To Talk Star Trek, Star Wars, And More

With the release of Star Trek Into Darkness, J.J. Abrams is making the rounds doing press interviews and appearances. Earlier this week, Abrams appeared on The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, and now you can listen to the geek icon’s interview with Howard Stern.
J.J. Abrams appeared on the Sirius XM radio show and talked about Star Trek Into Darkness, Star Wars: Episode VII, and a few other geek properties. The 35-minute interview also features late-night talk show host Jimmy Kimmel, who called J.J. Abrams a very busy man. Abrams and his Bad Robot production company are currently working on multiple TV series, including Revolution, Believe, and Almost Human. Where does this guy find the time?
Howard Stern went on to ask the 46-year-old director about his early career as a screenwriter. In particular, Stern asked Abrams about a bizarre meeting he took with Eddie Murphy after the success of one of Abrams’ early screenplays, Regarding Henry. The interview is worth listening to in its entirety for that wild story alone.
Finally, they discussed Abrams’ work on an unproduced screenplay for a Superman movie in 2002. Warner Bros scrapped the project after an early draft of the script leaked on the Internet, stirring up bad buzz and plenty of fanboy ire. If the project had moved forward, Brett Ratner would’ve directed the first Superman movie since Superman IV: The Quest for Peace in 1987. Instead, we eventually got Superman Returns.
Love him or hate him, Howard Stern is a great interviewer. He has the ability to get his guests comfortable enough to open up so they can feel free to talk about anything. Stern also does his research, and his interview with J.J. Abrams is no different.
