Mad Max: Fury Road’s Insane Comic-Con Footage Crashes Online
So much for apocalypse fatigue.

Holy shit. If you have any interest in Mad Max: Fury Road, George Miller’s upcoming return to the post-apocalyptic wasteland he first visited in 1979, have we got a treat for you. We’re still ten months away from the May 15, 2015 release date, but Warner Bros. and Village Roadshow are all over San Diego Comic-Con this weekend. At their panel they revealed the first footage to the public. The video has officially hit the web, and is here for you to gawk at. And good god it’s enough to make you start giggling and clapping your hands like a lunatic. There are also four new character posters, just for the hell of it.
Everything I wanted to see from this movie is present and accounted for in this teaser trailer/first look thing. I can barely form words right now, let alone coherent sentences. I just want to watch this over and over and over until I die. If I watch it enough times in a row it’s like actually watching the movie we’ve been waiting for since it was given the green light in 2010, right?
This video starts off slow and grim. There’s a solitary man standing there while a mosaic of radio broadcasts talk about water wars and gasoline shortages, and the wind whistles past. His name is Max and he lives in a world of “fire and blood.” Shortly after he says that you learn what he means as everything explodes into crazy ass action.
We’ve heard Fury Road described as one long chase scene by those who’ve seen it, and that’s exactly what you see here. There are car crashes galore—they supposedly destroyed hundreds of cars in the process of making this movie—and some absolutely insane looking stunts. That bit near the end of the video where the motorcycle runs into the semi truck and crumples underneath the wheels, how the hell did no one die filming that? It’s brutal.
The entire world on display here looks fantastic. You have the towering clouds of that sandstorm sweeping across the wastes, a line of post-apocalyptic battlewagons speeding over the desert wastes, and did I mention the action already? There’s a lot of that, like a ludicrous amount. I didn’t think I could be more excited for Fury Road, but there you have it.
The first poster shows Tom Hardy, who takes over the iconic role of Max Rockatansky that launched Mel Gibson to superstar status, and he appears to be upside down. Maybe? I’m not sure what’s going on in this poster, but he looks deadly serious.
Charlize Theron shaved her head and got super intense looking for this movie, as you can see as her Furiosa character screams and steers her badass automobile through throngs of enemies. What we know of the plot involves Max and Furiosa leading a caravan to what they hope will be peace, safety, and survival.
Of course things are never that easy, and they are pursued the entire way. A group of nasty, mask-wearing villains led by Immortan Joe (Hugh Keays-Byrne, who you may recognize at Toecutter from the first Mad Max movie) is on their heels every step of the way.
And then there’s Nux, played by Nicholas Hoult (Warm Bodies). He looks crazy as hell, and super intense, which again, is exactly what we’re looking for in our Mad Max movies.
