Mad Max: Fury Road Photo Shows Off A Scuffed Up Tom Hardy

If Mad Max: Fury Road feels like it is one of those movies that has been on the way for years and years, that’s because it has. Lengthy delays in filming were the first problem, when God himself attempted to wipe the production off the face of the earth with bible-style floods. Then George Miller’s return to the post-apocalyptic world he created more than three decades ago faced studio interference, more delays, and reshoots to make an awesome scene even more awesome. Even though it finally wrapped in 2012, we’ll have to wait more than a year to wait until we’ll finally see the movie. It’s been a while since we’ve heard anything about the movie, but now a new picture has surfaced of star Tom Hardy as the iconic Max Rockatansky.
Max looks suitably grizzled and scuffed up in this picture, which is exactly what you want out of a Mad Max movie. You don’t spend that much time roaming the post-apocalyptic wastes of futuristic Australia without getting some battle scars and getting covered with grit.
We don’t know a ton about the plot of Fury Road at this point, and probably won’t learn much more for a while. After all, the movie doesn’t open until May 15, 2015, so we’ve got a wait ahead of us.
The story is based on the Word Burgers of the History Men, who keep up the oral tradition, passing knowledge down through their tales, and the eyewitness accounts of people who lived through the great Road War. Max falls in with a group running across the wastes lead by Imperator Furiosa (Charlize Theron with a shaved head), and the movie has been described as one long chase scene, which is also exactly what you want to see in a Mad Max movie.
Fury Road joins a massive, and packed, schedule of summer movies in 2015. The specific release date is smack dab in the middle of two other big releases, Brad Bird’s mysterious Tomorrowland and the continuing adventures of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, The Avengers: Age of Ultron. It’s hard to imagine that, even if Fury Road wins the box office race on its opening weekend, it will continue that trend multiple weeks in a row. Still, the studio must have confidence in the movie if they’re willing to put it in such a position. They’re probably banking on an older audience, one that grew up watching Mel Gibson and his badass muscle car tear ass across the desert.
Mad Max: Fury Road also stars Nicholas Hoult, Zoe Kravitz, Nathan Jones, and Rosie Huntington-Whitley. Hugh Keays-Byrne, who played the Toecutter in the original Mad Max, also shows up, though in a different role.
