The finale of Edgar Wright and Simon Pegg’s “Blood and Ice Cream trilogy” is coming to its conclusion in 2013 with the film The World’s End. The series started almost nine years ago with the release of Shaun of the Dead, which launched Wright, Pegg, and Nick Frost into the geek pop culture pantheon. The end is near as Universal Studios releases two new images from the upcoming science fiction comedy.

Drinks

The images from the apocalyptic comedy come via Empire Magazine. There is still not much known about the film’s plot, but it involves five childhood friends who reunite to recreate a legendary pub-crawl from their youth. The last pub on their journey is called “The World’s End,” but little do they know that the actual end of the world is close at hand. Pegg tells the British magazine, “It’s a much bigger proposition than the other two films. There are twelve pubs on the crawl. When you’ve seen the film, you’ll be able to relate each pub name to what happens inside.”

The full list of the pub names that will be featured in the film can be found on The World’s End teaser poster. What will happen in “The Famous Cock?”

Pegg

The movie features Edgar Wright’s usual suspects, Simon Pegg and Nick Frost, along with regulars Martin Freeman (Shaun of the Dead) and Paddy Considine (Hot Fuzz), and new addition Eddie Marsan (Sherlock Holmes, V for Vendetta).

The World’s End is the final film in the “Blood and Ice Cream trilogy,” which is a post-modern take on genre movies. Shaun of the Dead kicked off the trilogy with a take on the horror/zombie genre in 2004. In 2007, Wright and Pegg released the action movie Hot Fuzz, which put a spin on the buddy cop genre. The World’s End will play off the social science fiction genre in the trilogy’s conclusion.

The World’s End will hit theaters everywhere on October 25th in the US and on August 14th in the UK.
