Just when you think that Marvel can’t possibly churn out any more promotion for their upcoming cosmic adventure Guardians of the Galaxy, they step up, throw a dismissive laugh in your general direction, and unleash a fresh avalanche of marketing that threatens to sweep you away. This time they’re back with two new videos that introduce you to two of the key players, as well as a trio of character posters that show off a few big name actors who will play smaller, though key, roles in the film.

The core plot revolves around a group of deep space criminals led by the brash, not-as-notorious-as-he-would-like-to-be Star-Lord (Chris Pratt), a small time thief looking to break into the big time. Hailing from Earth, a planet of outlaws that includes Bonnie and Clyde, Billy the Kid, and John Stamos, he might just get his chance, though not exactly as he expects. Over the course of Guardians, he and the mismatched team that includes Gamora (Zoe Saldana), Drax the Destroyer (Dave Bautista), Rocket Raccoon (Bradley Cooper), and Groot (Vin Diesel), must figure out how to come together to save the galaxy from the threat Ronan the Accuser and the Kree Empire.

What you get out of this introductory feature from Yahoo, is how much fun Pratt and company had making this movie. And even though he may try to hide it, Star-Lord, also known as Peter Jason Quill, has the proverbial heart of gold, and isn’t about to stand aside and let evil win the day. As he says, he has a “hunch that they’re doing something special,” and from everything we’ve seen, they certainly are.

An eight-foot-tall alien tree who only says one thing, Groot is going to be one of the most memorable characters in a sea of them, and this new TV spot from Disney gives him his moment to shine. As you learn, all he can say in any given situation is, “I am Groot,” which feels like it’s going to cause some consternation among his crewmates. If this new footage is any indication, Guardians of the Galaxy is going to be an incredible looking film. Just check out the shots of Groot and Rocket, not to mention the space-based action sequences, and you’ll get a good idea of what you’re in for.

Guardians of the GalaxyMichael Rooker’s Zatoan archer Yondu may not have his traditional super-tall Mohawk in this incarnation, but he does look pretty damn awesome in this character poster. He plays a big part in the story of Star-Lord, and you may notice that the two are wearing rather similar outfits.

Guardians of the GalaxyGlenn Close shows up as Nova Prime, a high muckety-muck in the Nova Corps, a kind of intergalactic police force tasked with protecting the galaxy and all of its 12 billion inhabitants.

Guardians of the GalaxyJohn C. Reilly plays crewman Rhomann Dey, another leader of the Nova Corps, and, if you’ve been watching the trailers and commercials, he also has a dry, sarcastic sense of humor that is a perfect fit for the overall plan going on here.

Directed by James Gunn, Guardians of the Galaxy opens everywhere on August 1. It’s time to start getting really, really excited.
