Is there anything better than finding out that one of your favorite canceled Netflix properties is coming back for a Disney+ reboot? We’re talking of course, about Vincent D’Onofrio returning to reprise his role as Kingpin in the upcoming Daredevil: Born Again series, which is slated for a 2024 release. According to Newsweek, D’Onofrio mentioned that although the series premiere is still almost a year out, production for season 2 is well underway, which is great news!

Vincent D’Onofrio will be reprising his role as Kingpin/Wilson Fisk alongside Charlie Cox, who will be portraying Daredevil, the titular character, once again. Though Born Again will, in some ways, pick up where the Netflix series left off after concluding its three-season run, the show will go in its own new direction and not be a continuation in the form of a fourth season. At this point, it’s clear that the Godfather of Harlem star is enthusiastic about once again donning Kingpin’s crisp white suit and bald head, and he’s gone on record saying how much he enjoys the role.

Not only is Vincent D’Onofrio enthusiastic about his continuation of the Kingpin character, but he’s also beyond thrilled that he gets to continue this journey with Charlie Cox (Daredevil) and Jon Bernthal (Punisher). The first season of Daredevil: Born Again will be an 18-episode run, and D’Onofrio said that production for the second season will wrap sometime in December. And everybody seems to be pulling their weight to ensure this reboot is everything it’s supposed to be.

In regard to the production run, Vincent D’Onofrio had nothing but kind things to say about his Daredevil co-stars, stating, “It’s always nice to come on a set and you know that the other main actors are as prepared as anybody could be. It shortens the day, and that kind of preparation lends itself to a great scene.” While great storytelling is vital to the success of a series, it’s important that everybody involved is having a great time, which seems to be the case!

Born Again occupies a similar universe to the Netflix series and stars Vincent D’Onofrio alongside Cox and Bernthal, the new Daredevil series will lean more heavily into Matt Murdock’s legal profession. He told Newsweek that fans will not expect what’s coming in the upcoming first season, but they’ll ultimately get what they want in the way of satisfying storytelling. Elaborating on this statement, D’Onofrio stated, “by the second season, there are gigantic, gigantic payoffs—in the first season, too, but I can’t say much about that—but the fans are gonna really get what they want. It’s really quite cool to be doing it.”

For those of you who want to catch up on some of the lore, Marvel’s Daredevil, originally only on Netflix, is now available through Disney+. Though Vincent D’Onofrio and Charlie Cox have stated that the series will take Daredevil, Kingpin, and Punisher to new and exciting places (including the courtroom), the original three-season run still serves as an excellent primer for the upcoming Disney+ series. Whether you’re new to Daredevil or just want a refresher, you have plenty of time to catch up while the cast and crew are hard at work shooting season 2 for Daredevil: Born Again.

Not only will you see Charlie Cox and Vincent D’Onofrio bringing the same energy from the Netflix series to Born Again, but they will also continue to push Daredevil into deeper and more emotional story arcs that will heighten your senses. We’ll even get a better look into Kingpin‘s origin story, which wasn’t fully addressed in the original three-season run.
