Disney has absolutely spoiled us over the last few days with new project announcements and never-before-seen footage of some of the studio’s upcoming films and television shows. The D23 Expo is currently taking place at the Anaheim Convention Center in California, and the event has brought us our first look at the upcoming Disney+ series The Santa Clauses starring Tim Allen. The teaser trailer was posted to the official Disney D23 Twitter page and is just over a minute in length.

In The Santa Clauses, Tim Allen reprises his role as Scott Calvin from the film franchise. He’s on the brink of his 65th birthday and is forced to come to terms with the fact that he can’t be Santa Clause forever. His duties as Santa are starting to take a toll on him, and he wants a normal life for his family. Scott sets out to find a suitable replacement while also preparing a new life for his family away from the North Pole.

The trailer begins with Santa (Tim Allen) announcing his decision to retire, which sends his workers at the North Pole into a state of panic. Shortly after, he begins the interview process for his successor, and his first candidate is none other than former NFL quarterback Peyton Manning. During the interview, Manning takes jabs at his former New England Patriots rival Tom Brady. What follows is a short montage of shots from the upcoming series including an appearance by actor David Krumholtz, who reprises his role as Bernard from the movie franchise.

The Santa Clauses was announced in January 2022, and it was confirmed to serve as a legacy sequel to The Santa Clause films, with Tim Allen returning as the title character. The actor will also serve as an executive producer along with Jack Burditt and Jason Winer. In addition to producing, Burditt is also the showrunner for the series. He previously collaborated with Tim Allen on the long-running sitcom Last Man Standing.

Released in 1994, The Santa Clause was a huge hit for Tim Allen. The film centered on a man who inadvertently causes Santa to fall off of his roof on Christmas Eve and finds himself magically recruited to take his place. The family flick grossed nearly $200 million at the box office and spawned two successful sequels including 2002’s The Santa Clause 2 and 2006’s The Santa Clause 3: The Escape Clause. All three movies are currently streaming on Disney+.

In addition to Tim Allen returning as Scott Calvin/Santa Clause and David Krumholtz returning as Santa’s trusted helper Bernard, Elizabeth Mitchell will reprise her role as Scott’s wife Carol, who was first introduced in The Santa Clause 2. Rounding out the cast are Kal Penn, Matilda Lawler, Austin Kane, Leland Heflin, Dempsey Gibson, Devin Bright, and Rupali Redd.

The Santa Clauses will premiere exclusively on Disney+ on November 16th with the first two episodes. It’s unknown at this time how many episodes the first season will consist of, but we’re excited to see Tim Allen return for more Christmas shenanigans.
