The Rock has been attached to a Black Adam feature film for longer than anyone can remember. Fans have been anticipating his appearance as the supervillain/antihero and they are clearly getting antsy to see the superstar finally enter the DC cinematic universe. With the recent reveal of some official Black Adam concept art in a trailer, the fervor is at an all-time high.
So, it is not surprising to see that fans are already creating their own cinematic endeavors to integrate The Rock into his Black Adam persona. One such fan, stryder HD, decided to craft their own trailer for a sequel to Man of Steel and cast Black Adam as the antagonist to the Last Son of Krypton.
Watch the trailer featuring footage from Man of Steel, The Rock movies, and a few other surprises right here:
Kudos to stryder HD for all the work that went into this concept trailer. There are a few critiques to offer though. It is a little strange that The Rock as Black Adam would appear as an outright villain in a Man of Steel sequel as opposed to his own announced solo film. The Rock as Black Adam is also set to appear in the sequel to Shazam!, which makes sense considering the character’s direct connection to the superhero.
Also, this fan trailer integrates footage from not only The Rock movies and Man of Steel, but also Ben-Hur from 2016. This is because stryder HD has recast the wizard Shazam as Morgan Freeman. This includes footage of Freeman’s character from Ben-Hur and some voice acting that attempts to impersonate Freeman. Djimon Hounsou portrayed the wizard Shazam in Shazam! back in 2019.
The Rock does not look bad in the various mockups stryder HD has made for this trailer. Now that we have seen the official concept art of The Rock as the character, it is enjoyable to see that in action.
It is worth mentioning that Henry Cavill has reportedly been signed to return as Superman in future DC cinematic endeavors. Could The Rock end up crossing over with Superman in some capacity? It’s possible! Black Adam is one of the few superpowered characters that can go toe-to-toe with Superman, so it would be exciting to see Cavill and The Rock trade blows on the big screen.
Black Adam was originally set to begin production this past summer, but the coronavirus pandemic shut down all film production and has almost assuredly pushed Black Adam back. The Rock was also recently diagnosed with COVID-19. He has apparently made a recovery but who knows if this event, which also affected his direct family, could change his outlook towards the Black Adam project.
It is great to see fans so enthused about The Rock as Black Adam. Whether or not he and Superman will cross paths remains to be seen, but we can at least scratch that itch thanks to this fan trailer from stryder HD. Once we have anything more official in regards to Black Adam, we will make sure to report it to you.
