Henry Cavill and his version of Superman has been caught up in the establishment of a greater DC cinematic universe. However, a new report states that the actor is back for at least one more round in the iconic cape and tights.
According to this alleged scoop, Henry Cavill has signed a contract to appear as Superman/Clark Kent in future DC movies. More specifically, Cavill himself has supposedly pitched a new solo Superman movie and the pitch was received very well by the head honchos at Warner Bros. and DC. Whether or not this means Cavill will also appear as Superman in other DC films is unclear at this time.
Henry Cavill has been in a tough spot since the DC universe has taken its time figuring out what it wants to be. After the critical responses to Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and the theatrical cut of Justice League, a lot of discussions cropped up about Cavill leaving the franchise. However, with the upcoming release of Zack Snyder’s cut of Justice League on HBO Max, interest in Cavill’s Superman has been reignited.
Not to mention that Henry Cavill seems personally devoted to the character. If this report is to be believed, his willingness to pitch his own overall take on a Superman story shows how much he cares and respects the character. Though he was not able to appear during the ending moments of Shazam!, Cavill clearly wants the chance to shine as the Man of Steel once again.
Much like Ben Affleck’s Batman/Bruce Wayne, Henry Cavill is a good Superman/Clark Kent who has just been stuck in a lot of mishandled movies. Since Affleck is going to get a chance to play the Dark Knight again in The Flash, it only seems appropriate to give Cavill another shot. This is especially true if the DC universe is planning to go in a much brighter direction than the Zack Snyder entries. Cavill seems like an actor that could have a lot of fun playing a lighter, more warm version of the character.
It is going to be interesting to see what direction the entire DC cinematic universe is going to take in the next few years. With The Batman headed to theaters next year and looking like it takes place as a standalone feature like Joker, could Henry Cavill get a Superman movie that acts in a similar fashion? At this point, it seems like that could be the best way for some of the DC universe to go.
And with news that The Flash film is going to restart the entire DC universe, it could be possible that Henry Cavill gets to press the reset button on his version of Superman/Clark Kent. Cavill deserves an opportunity to deliver a Superman that is as hopeful and revered as he seems to be in the world of the Zack Snyder films. Depending on the response to Zack Snyder’s cut of Justice League, we could be seeing Cavill suit back up for a few more go-arounds as the Last son of Krypton. Here’s hoping this report is 100% true.
