AMC has released a teaser for The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live, featuring popular original series characters Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) and Michonne (Danai Gurira). The characters, who set off on their own adventure before The Walking Dead ended, made a surprise return in the final episode of the flagship show in 2022.

The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live is described as an epic love story of two people who are changed by a world in upheaval.

Despite only being 30 seconds long, The Ones Who Live teaser is filled with content, blending behind-the-scenes interview clips with fresh scenes from the show. While the clip refrains from revealing the long-awaited reunion of Rick and Michonne, the footage showcases their individual journeys in a thrilling manner, offering brief glimpses of both new allies and adversaries.

The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live will be released on February 25, 2024.

The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live is described as an epic love story of two people who are changed by a world in upheaval. Separated by distance, an unstoppable force, and the lingering shadows of their former selves, Rick and Michonne find themselves thrust into a different world shaped by a conflict against the undead.

According to the official logline via VarietyThe Ones Who Live is ultimately a battle against the dead and the living. “Will Rick and Michonne manage to reunite and rediscover their identities in an unfamiliar setting? Are they adversaries, soul mates, casualties, or victors? In a world without each other, do they truly exist, or will they realize that, like the rest, they too are the walking dead?”

The Ones Who Live

Created by Scott M. Gimple and Danai Gurira for AMC, The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live will be released on February 25, 2024. The limited series, which consists of six episodes, was announced during San Diego Comic-Con in July 2022, with Gimple serving as showrunner. The groundwork for the series was laid in the finale of The Walking Dead, titled “Rest in Peace.”

Despite having a pivotal relationship in The Walking Dead, Rick and Michonne (who will soon be seen in The Ones Who Live) have experienced a prolonged separation. Rick exited the show in Season 9, while Michonne’s departure occurred in Season 10. Although they both appeared in the series finale, they remained apart and were seemingly depicted in different timelines, each holding the same journal.

The lingering question surrounding The Ones Who Live revolves around when the couple will finally reunite. While the recent announcement suggests that the answer is just a few months away, the show’s structure hints at a possible reunion within the initial two episodes. This contrasts with the approach taken by The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon, which continues to delay Daryl’s (Norman Reedus) reunion with Carol (Melissa McBride).

Principal photography for The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live began on February 15 and concluded on May 29, 2023, operating under the provisional title “Summit.” In March 2023, Pollyanna McIntosh, whose character Jadis Stokes/Anne disappeared along with Rick Grimes on the CRM helicopter in “What Comes After,” was spotted on set in New Jersey.

Subsequent filming and ADR (Additional Dialogue Recording) for Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live is set to resume following the conclusion of the SAG-AFTRA strike. However, some filming did take place during the strike as part of an agreement between AMC and the actors union.
