Following the first screenings at CinemaCon, many people have been wondering if The Flash 2 is in the works. When asked about the possibility, director Andy Muschietti said he’d like to see how the current tale about the Scarlett Speedster does before making any decisions. “We’re all waiting to see how this movie does,” the filmmaker said about the Ezra Miller starrer via ComicBook.

He added that there’s a lot of excitement about continuing the story if The Flash is successful. However, Muschietti also noted the fate of The Flash 2 depends on the plans at DC Studios. “There’s an architecture that’s being created. And the question is will this new architecture absorb this story?” he said. Fortunately, the existence of the multiverse can make it a possibility.

“The multiverse allows different worlds to coexist. So hopefully, yes,” Muschietti told the press. Despite the filmmaker’s positive outlook, the upcoming movie could be the only time fans see Ezra Miller suit up as the titular hero. When James Gunn and Peter Safran took over DC Studios, they unveiled a new slate of movies and series with no mention of The Flash 2.

Chapter One, dubbed “Gods and Monsters,” will see the recasting and reintroduction of several famous DC heroes. As such, the future of character-driven sequels like The Flash 2 is unlikely. Moreover, when detailing his vision of the franchise, Gunn said The Flash serves to “reset the entire DC Universe.”

Another factor that makes The Flash 2 a complex project for Warner Bros to green light is the controversy surrounding its star. Ezra Miller was arrested several times in 2022 and has come under scrutiny for their erratic behavior. The actor eventually issued a formal apology saying they are seeking help for “complex mental health issues.”

Interestingly, Peter Safran has publicly shown his support for Miller, saying, “Ezra is completely committed to their recovery.” For now, the actor will return to their role as Barry Allen/Flash in the upcoming movie, which hits theaters on June 16. They star alongside Kiersey Clemons as Iris West, Sasha Calle as Supergirl, Ron Livingston as Henry Allen, and Michael Shannon as General Zod.

Ben Affleck and Michael Keaton appear as Batman from their respective timelines. The most recent Dark Knight shared a few details about his role in The Flash during a recent appearance on the Smartless Podcast. “It’s my best s**t I have done as Batman! I finally figured out how to play the guy!” Affleck said. While he didn’t mention anything about The Flash 2, the Justice League star did confirm a few cameos.

“There was a scene where I get saved by Wonder Woman during a conflagration with some bad guys,” he revealed, saying she saves Batman with the Lasso of Truth. He also added that Bruce Wayne shares some of his feelings about his work and life. “I was like, ‘Wait a minute; I got it!” Affleck said of his portrayal of the iconic superhero.

While the prospect of The Flash 2 remains unknown, fans can still look forward to The Flash, directed by Andy Muschietti, from a script by Christina Hodson. The story follows Barry Allen, who travels back in time to save his mother. But using the Speed Force to change major consequences as Barry finds himself in a world without superheroes.
