We, of course, know Sydney Sweeney from her roles in HBO’s incredibly dark teen drama Euphoria and in her current run opposite Glen Powell in the box office-topping rom-com Anyone But You, but the actress’s latest part is something different altogether. Released today is the first look at Sydney Sweeney’s upcoming horror feature, Immaculate, in which she plays an Italian nun who mysteriously becomes pregnant. Directed by Michael Mohan, NEON’s newest dive into the genre promises to be full of jump-scares and unsettling moments when the forces of evil haunt the once-peaceful convent.

Immaculate brings Sydney Sweeney to a genre fans aren’t used to seeing her in: supernatual horror.

The beginning of the teaser foreshadows that Sydney Sweeney’s character, Cecilia, has been “saved” from a situation that has kept her alive longer than she thought possible. It would seem that becoming a nun was her way of paying back the gift that she felt was given to her. As her days at the convent pass, surrounded by others who serve God, Cecilia begins to suffer from symptoms similar to early signs of pregnancy.

It’s then that she’s revealed to be inexplicably pregnant, which is seen by the others – specifically the male leaders of the church – as a miracle; Cecilia isn’t so sure that the forces of light sent the baby growing inside of her. Mysteries abound in the rest of the teaser as Sydney Sweeney’s character is seen in a Mother of God-type role, but with secrets around every corner, she doesn’t know who she can trust and certainly feels more than a little hesitant about the baby, who she’s going to give birth to soon.

Along with Sydney Sweeney, Michael Mohan’s psychological horror flick also stars Àlvaro Morte (Money Heist) and Simona Tabasco (The White Lotus). The project marks a reunion between the leading lady and director, as the pair previously worked alongside one another on Mohan’s other trippy thriller, 2021’s The Voyeurs. With filming for Immaculate done in Rome, the Italian scenery will come alive in the background of the in-your-face terror when the project arrives in cinemas on March 22, 2024.

Beyond Madame Web and Immaculate, Sydney Sweeney is also expected to return to the long-awaited third season of Euphoria.

If you love Sydney Sweeney but horror features aren’t for you, then there’s still time to catch her on the big screen in Will Gluck’s (Easy A) Anyone But You. In it, Sweeney stars opposite Glen Powell (Top Gun: Maverick) in a will-they-won’t-they situation as two enemies whose hearts begin to soften for one another. The title came out at the end of last year and quickly rose to dominate the box office – something that wasn’t expected as it was up against other projects like Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, Wonka, Migration, The Iron Claw, and more.

Aside from Immaculate, Sydney Sweeney, who landed two Emmy nominations for her role in Season 1 of The White Lotus, has a handful of other projects coming out in the near future. Prior to the arrival of Immaculate, audiences who are counting down the days until Sony’s Madame Web swings onto screens will see Sweeney star opposite Dakota Johnson as Julia Carpenter, aka Spider-Woman.

Beyond Madame Web and Immaculate, Sydney Sweeney is also expected to return to the long-awaited third season of Euphoria. As for her work in feature-length productions, Sweeney will appear opposite Julianne Moore in Michael Pearce’s thriller Echo Valley and alongside Jude Law, Vanessa Kirby, and more in Ron Howard’s survival thriller Eden.
