The Office canceled

Mindy Kaling is arguably one of the actors from The Office, as she portrayed Kelly Kapur in the series, but she has now stated that the characters in the series would be canceled if the show were to be written now. According to Kaling, “I think she [Kelly Kapoor] would have quit Dunder Mifflin to become an influencer, and then probably be canceled, almost immediately. Actually, most of the characters on that show would be canceled by now.”

Though Kaling believes that a lot of the characters in The Office would be canceled, it hasn’t stopped fans and media from asking the cast if there would be a reboot or reunion happening in the future. Kaling reiterated that it would likely not happen based on how many of the characters are “inappropriate.” B.J. Novak, who played Kelly Kapoor’s love interest Ryan, also stated that a reboot would have to be an “artistic decision” and not one that was driven by money, for a reboot to even happen. Novak’s character, Ryan, would likely be one of the top candidates to be canceled if the sitcom would come back.

Even Steve Carell, who portrayed the infamous Michael Scott, has flat-out said “no” to a reboot of The Office, stating that the reboot would need all the same producers, directors, actors, and writers. Even with all that, he claims that The Office would not be the same, which is likely true. The Office is still wildly popular, and maybe the reason for that is that these “canceled” characters can exist in the past, back when the show was created.

The Office ran from 2005 to 2013 before it was finally canceled by NBC. During its time on the air, it became a cultural phenomenon, as it showcased a group of coworkers at a paper company in Scranton, Pennsylvania, called Dunder Mifflin. While the series was of the same variety of sitcoms as we have all seen before, it revolutionized how the mockumentary style can be utilized to create something quite special.

Leading the pack of the cast was Steve Carell as Michael Scott, who would arguably be the first of The Office cast that would be canceled. Joining Carrell was John Krasinski as Jim Halpert, and Jenna Fisher as Pam Beesly, both of whom had their careers explode after these respective roles. Also, B.J. Novak as Ryan, Mindy Kaling as Kelly Kapoor, and Rainn Wilson as Dwight Schrute also had their careers skyrocket after appearing in the series.

Although all the previously mentioned actors were spectacular on The Office, their characters would likely all be canceled for one reason or another, yes including Jim and Pam. Still, the series is one of the most revered sitcoms that has ever been made, and it remains as popular now as it was years ago. The Office should stay where it is, and not be attempted to be rebooted, as the humor would just not be the same.

Even though the series ended in 2013, The Office worked because the characters that deserve to be canceled were able to act the way they did in the show. The reboot couldn’t happen because any of those characters being dumbed down to not include all their horrible personalities would just simply not work. Still, it is fun to think about what would happen if someone like Creed was created in a show these days.
