Since December 2021, fans of the Marvel cinematic universe have been excited about the production of the latest film featuring everyone’s web-slinging hero. Shortly after the release of Spider-Man: No Way Home, Spider-Man 4 was officially stated to be undergoing pre-production. But an ongoing feud between Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige and the brass at Sony Pictures is reported to have caused issues that are putting the film in danger.

Kevin Feige Is Trying To Salvage The MCU

Without a doubt, Feige has a giant to-do list that’s packed with a lot of promising films. In the next year, he’s expected to bring several films to fans, including The Fantastic Four, Captain America: Brave New World, and Thunderbolt. These projects, along with the Disney+ shows Ironheart and Daredevil: Born Again he’s involved with, certainly are commanding a lot of Feige’s attention away from Spider-Man 4.

Sony Wants To Fast-Track Spider-Man 4

This hectic schedule has made Marvel Studios want to hold off on the Spider-Man 4 project until 2026, in hopes of joining it with the release of Avengers: Kang of Destiny. This gives the talent at the successful studio enough time to ensure the quality product that fans deserve. Sony Pictures has been pushing back against Feige, insisting that the film be completed and released in 2025.

Disagreement Over Size And Scope

Additionally, Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures are in disagreement about what direction Spider-Man 4 should take. Feige and company want a film that centers around supervillain Kingpin being targeted by a superhero team-up of Daredevil and Spiderman. Sony Pictures, on the other hand, wants the sequel to be another film that jumps from reality to reality, similar to Spider-Man: No Way Home.

Fans On The Side Of Feige

Who will get their way, or if a workable compromise is reached, is yet to be seen. No matter who is right, fans of Spiderman have taken to social media platforms to register their disgust about Spider-Man 4 being endangered. These filmgoers seem to be largely on the side of Feige, supporting Fiege’s position that he’s short on the necessary time to complete the project in time for a 2025 release.

Patience Is A Virtue

This begs the question of what will be better for Sony Pictures in the long run. Would it be better to rush Marvel Studios to complete a project that might have negatively impacted production quality, in hopes of still getting a fan-driven box office draw? Or is it wiser to be patient, and allow Fiege and his company to create Spider-Man 4 on his terms, most assuredly giving fans a better film?

Tom Holland Will Be Back

Tom Holland, who first put on the Spidey suit in the 2016 film Captain America: Civil War, went on to play the Stan Lee creation in the 2017 feature Spider-Man: Homecoming. A favorite among fans, Holland reprised this role in Avengers: Infinity War, Avengers: Endgame, Spider-Man: Far From Home, and the recent smash hit Spider-Man: No Way Home. So long as Spiderman 4 continues in development, Holland will be once again slinging webs and fighting bad guys.

Spider-Man Doesn’t Need The MCU To Succeed

Since the first theatrical adaptation of the character was released in 2002 with Tobey Maguire in the lead role, film studios have seen excellent returns on any film with Spider-Man in the title. Throughout 11 films, nearly $9 billion has been raked in by box offices globally. It will be interesting to see just how much more Spider-Man 4 will add to this haul, when and if Sony Pictures and Feige can reach an agreement.
