Take The Voyage Home With Star Trek IV In 60 Seconds

Some contend that Wrath of Khan is the best of all Star Trek films, but I will fight until my dying day for the ridiculous joy that is Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home. In the film, the crew is contacted and told that the only way they can save Earth from a probe threatening to destroy the planet is to travel back in time and retrieve some humpback whales. They slingshot around the sun and end up in 1980s San Francisco, where they seek out whales to kidnap, Chekov makes pedestrians nervous by asking where he can find “nuclear wessels”, and Kirk has some difficulty assimilating to local customs. He takes a lady on a date he can’t pay for because “we don’t have money where I come from” and has an unpleasant run-in with a taxi driver that producers one of film’s best retorts, “Double dumbass on you!”
I’m obviously not the only one enamored with The Voyage Home, though, as one group thought it worthy enough to recreate as their entry for Vancouver’s 2012 Virgin Radio Fake Film Festival:
The entries in the contest are judged on “their entertainment value, their ability to recapture the story of the original film, and the filmmaker’s promotional efforts.” I don’t know about that last criteria, but I think we can all agree that the video has plenty of entertainment value. And it certainly does a great job of capturing the silliness and humor of the original film, even if its abbreviated nature does leave you to wonder why Scotty is speaking into a computer mouse.
