New Red Dwarf X Clip Brings A Welcome Return To Form

This fall when British sci-fi sitcom Red Dwarf makes its long-awaited return to the airwaves, it will bring with it the classic feel that fans love, and that was largely absent from the 2009 mini-series Back to Earth. A new clip from the tenth season, Red Dwarf X, demonstrates this return to form.
This video shows Cat (Danny John-Jules) and Kryten (Robert Llewellyn) saying everything in unison. You can make an educated guess that this excerpt comes from the episode titled “Entangled,” the fourth of the six chapters.
From this quick look, it certainly appears that Red Dwarf X will welcome back the tone and atmosphere that fans of the show love. The cheesy sets, questionable special effects, and what series star Craig Charles calls “four clowns in a room” combine into an overall package that is my all-time favorite show on television, sci-fi or otherwise. I can’t wait for the show to get back down to business.
For those of you not familiar with Red Dwarf, it follows the adventures of a mismatched crew of misfits and losers as they bumble around deep space. Dave Lister (Charles) is the last man alive. After his mining ship, on which he holds the lowest possible rank, has a nuclear reactor leak, it’s blasted into the farthest, most desolate reaches of space. When all of this went down Lister was in suspended animation, and thus survived the accident. The ship’s computer wakes him up 3 million years in the future, and his only companions are Rimmer (Chris Barrie), the hologramitic representation of Lister’s dead bunkmate; Cat, a creature descended from common house cats; and Kryten, a domestic service droid they picked up along the way.
Red Dwarf is ridiculous, crass, schlocky, and absolutely hilarious. Red Dwarf X returns this October.
