Europa Report’s First Poster Sizes Up The Situation

posterWe’ve been waiting patiently around these parts for Sebastián Cordero’s upcoming sci-fi horror flick Europa Report. In fact, I’ve even put a halt to my popsicle-stick space shuttle mission to Europa, just because the film’s semi-frightening teaser trailer has a me a little freaked out, and the film is coming out next month, so I probably wouldn’t be able to get it off the ground by then anyway. Not to mention the popsicle-derived diabetes.

Magnet Releasing finally got back into actual advertising and released the film’s first theatrical poster, seen above, showcasing the clunky tagline, “Fear. Sacrifice. Contact.” I am quite anxious to see where the “sacrifice” side of things comes in. The poster gives off the grainy, warped aesthetic that we expect from the stationary cameras used to create the film, and the antithesis between small human being and giant ice mountains beneath a giant planet is a worthy image, even if it reminds us of the recent posters for Star Trek Into Darkness and Oblivion.

What’s even more exciting than that is i09’s first impressions of the film, as reported by Meredith Woerner. She calls the film “the most painstakingly accurate space movie we’ve seen in ages,” and goes on to laud Europa Report‘s suspense-filled efforts, despite being “definitely not free of blunders.”

The film follows a privately funded six-person mission to Jupiter’s moon in search of intelligent life. Then things go wrong. The film stars Sharlto Copley, Michael Nyqvist, Christain Camargo, Daniel Wu, Anamaria Marinca, Karolina Wydra, and Isiah Whitlock Jr.

Europa Report will see its release June 27th on VOD platforms, and it will then move on to a limited theatrical release on August 2nd.
