Elysium Meets WALL-E And In The Loop’s Malcolm Tucker Becomes The Doctor In These Mash-Ups

Nothing like a good mash-up trailer, am I right? Especially when the two films have something in common. The above clip, titled Behind the WALL-Esium, comes to us courtesy of Funny or Die, and it does a damned fine job of smooshing together dialogue and visuals from Neill Blomkamp’s sci-fi bonanza Elysium and Pixar’s WALL-E, by way of Steven Soderbergh, which means there are also a few moments from the director’s HBO film Behind the Candelabra. Except for that last one, a Liberace biopic in which Matt Damon plays the pianist’s lover, Scott Thorson, both of the other films share a plotline involving an Earth gone wrong and a space-bound haven where the lucky members of the human race get to live. This probably wouldn’t have worked as well with Cars.

You can tell this wasn’t just made by a kid in his bedroom in between Skyrim sessions, because those generally stick to one film’s audio laid on top of another film’s visuals. (See here.) But this vid brings it all, telling the story of a robotic Damon who just wants to get up to Elysium, and must dress up in some really flamboyant clothing in order to do it. Sadly, there’s only one brief moment of animation, but then we get to see the amazing clip of Damon screaming, “I don’t even have my own fucking face! My fucking face is fucking gone!” right before seeing both Disney and Pixar’s names on the screen. Juxtapositions are neat.

The following mash-up was created by a non-professional, but that doesn’t make it any less amazing. “Malcolm Tucker IS Doctor Who!” was put together by YouTuber Pete Nottage, who mixed a Doctor Who commercial with Peter Capaldi, the newly announced twelfth Doctor, as his explicitly silver-tongued character from the BBC series The Thick of It, and the subsequent film In the Loop. The result is a hilariously foul-mouthed take on the great Doctor, who probably doesn’t get to work in a political setting that often, nor tell people to fuck off. But it is extremely fun to consider these two characters sharing the same DNA. Check out the very NSFW clip below.

This kind of joke seemed pretty obvious from the get-go, as proven by a couple of similar videos that came out right around the same time. You can see one below, but it isn’t as good as the first one.

What better time than now to put In the Loop in the DVD player while Doctor Who plays on Netflix?
