For better or worse, Robert Pattinson and Kristin Stewart will be forever linked in Hollywood circles and fans’ eyes. That’s what happens when you come on the scene as relative unknowns together, take part in a monster, blockbuster franchise, start dating and then start breaking up together. It will just link you together in the collective consciousness for some time. And now it appears they are still influencing how movies get made. According to insider Daniel Richtman, apparently, a Twilight sequel is in the works but there’s only one hurdle: Stewart and Pattinson don’t like each other and aren’t talking. I’d say that’s a bit of a speed bump.

It’s unclear what Kristin Stewart and Robert Pattinson are beefing over or if it’s just their life and relationships up until his point that still has them at odds. Whatever it is, it’s going to be a major deal-breaker for any future Twilight films if Edward Cullen and Bella Swan aren’t getting along and can’t bring the “chemistry” on screen. If they refused to work together we’d basically be in the “why bother?” territory of any new film being made in this story.

Now, in terms of Twilight, Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart have more than a little time to make amends if they are going to get back on-screen for this franchise. That’s because, as of right now, there isn’t even a clear story to tell about the characters. Author Stephenie Myers who penned the original four books, Twilight, New Moon, Eclipse, and Breaking Dawn, hasn’t yet written anything further with these two characters’ respective stories. There’s been word she is working on the next book in the series, two in fact, but those haven’t even been started yet. So in terms of source material, there’s quite a bit of time here.

And what’s the rush anyway? Robert Pattinson is about to embark on a new franchise of his own which has already garnered significant buzz and is setting up to introduce a whole new comic book timeline in the DC Universe. That’s because he’s starring in The Batman which is due out early next year. It’s going for a much grittier and darker look than we’ve seen from the character on screen already (which is really saying something) and will follow Pattinson’s Caped Crusader through his early time in the cowl.

This Robert Pattinson version of Batman looks like a stripped-down take on the character and the movie will bring in all the old favorites from the DC comic book pages, though will slightly different looks than in the past. It’s setting up to be a reset on the Batman character and will become something of a splinter franchise from the DC Extended Universe we know now that just hit in a big way with Zack Snyder’s Justice League.

Plus there’s some chance Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart will work again together before Twilight comes back with a new story. Recent rumors have Stewart in line to play Batwoman in this new Batman franchise. Those are far from confirmed but did have fans in a tizzy thinking about the possibility of these two meeting under new circumstances, in masks and without vampires as the central focal point.
