Though we haven’t seen Robert Pattinson in The Batman except for one extended trailer that came out a few months ago, we are starting to learn quite a bit about the world they are creating with this next iteration of the Caped Crusader. And one of those things, if rumors are true, is that Pattinson wants to have a major hand in how things move forward. According to insider Daniel Richtman, Pattinson is exerting a decent amount of control over the universe with significant demands about the plan moving forward.

According to this Richtman rumor, Robert Pattinson wants future films in The Batman franchise to be even darker than this first one (which looks pretty dark already) and is eschewing any humor going forward. And that’s not all, with Richtman saying that Pattinson wants every villain from the Batman universe to come into play at some point either in this movie or future ones. It’s quite a bit of world-building and tone-setting that appears to be at the front of his process here with some of the “demands” actually looking like they are already in place.

For starters, this new version of Batman in Gotham already looks incredibly dark. If the first trailer is any indication, there’s a foreboding and almost sinister tone to what is happening with Paul Dano’s The Riddler taking more of a serial killer turn than just a hijinks-y psychopath with some witty turns of phrase. And Pattinson’s Bruce Wayne, who is still at the onset of his crime-fighting career, appears to not pull any punches (literally or figuratively) when it comes to dealing with the seedier elements of Gotham.

Additionally, if the goal of Robert Pattinson is to meet every villain in the Batman universe, they are starting things right from the jump. In addition to the Riddler in the first film, we are also going to get some other familiar names joining the story as well. There’s going to be Selena Kyle/ Catwoman played by Zoe Kravitz and Colin Farrell will play an early version of Oswald Cobblepot/ The Penguin. Plus, John Turturro will take on the role of Carmine Falcone to complete some of the mafia criminal underworld that is at the heart of Gotham.

Of course, as far as this Robert Pattinson version of Batman is concerned, and his goal of getting all of the villains on the screen in some way, the biggest news might be the one Giant Freakin Robot broke last week in a couple of exclusives. We had it that both The Joker and Mr. Freeze will factor into this movie somehow. It might only be cameos for each, but that would be almost all of the major Batman villains just in the first run.

In all, if these are actually Robert Pattinson’s demands when it comes to The Batman universe, it would appear they’ve covered quite a bit of ground already. If this franchise trends as dark as the trailer would make it appear, then we will likely have a totally new Batman on the big screen than we’ve seen in the past. It’s already looking like a very cool reset for the character and one that could have staying power if Matt Reeves and company pull this first one off without a hitch.
