Phoebe Waller-Bridge is collecting participation roles in franchises as though they are properties in a Monopoly board game. After doctoring the script in the James Bond thriller, No Time to Die, embodying a droid in a galaxy far, far away in Solo: A Star Wars Story, the Killing Eve creator is about to become the goddaughter to Indiana Jones, according to a tweet made by Empire Magazine.

The still-untitled fifth film in the Indiana Jones saga will be the first Indy feature not directed by Stephen Speilberg. Instead, James Mangold (Logan) will be directing the feature, and Harison Ford is set to reprise his role as the titular lead.

This film is expected to be Ford’s final outing as the Nazi-fighting archeologist, and so fans have been wondering who would be taking over the whip and fedora for future films, as it’s pretty obvious the studio won’t want to let the franchise go. While not much has been revealed about the film’s plot, we know that it will follow Indy in his typical daredevil pursuits. With the new information about Phoebe Waller-Bridge’s role, perhaps we can expect her to be the future face of the franchise.

After the fourth movie, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, it appeared that writers wanted Shia LaBeouf to take over the mantle, but after the film’s poor reception, that notion was canceled. Now, the franchise is building itself a second option by introducing Phoebe Waller-Bridge’s character, Helena, Henry Jones Jr.’s goddaughter.

Despite the disappointment rendered by the film’s predecessor, the team behind Indy 5 seem to have high hopes for the new film, especially for Helena. Phoebe Waller-Bridge even claimed the character to be a “wonder and a mystery.”

Waller-Bridge has channeled her inner Barbara Stanwyck for the character and is excited for audiences to see her performance in the action-packed film, which apparently includes the Fleabag creator throwing herself on top of a moving vehicle.

The first Indiana Jones movie, Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark, was released in 1981 and met with critical acclaim by audiences and critics alike. Over the last forty years, the franchise has continued to release more content featuring the adventurous archeologist, albeit with large gaps between releases. Now, Disney is hard at work in expanding the Indiana Jones universe, though it seems they are not solely focusing on Indy anymore.

In addition to introducing Pheobe Waller-Bridge’s character in Indiana Jones 5, Disney+ also has an Indiana Jones series in the works that will feature Indy’s mentor, Abner Ravenwood. Both productions have been tightly under wraps, and little is known about either plot at this time.

Danish actor Mads Mikkelson stars alongside Ford and Waller-Bridge as the chief antagonist, a Nazi scientist working for the government in 1969 when the film takes place. The character, named Voller, is said to have been inspired by Wernher von Braun, an actual former Nazi member who worked as an engineer for NASA.

Indiana Jones 5 is set to release on June 30, 2023.
