With The Walking Dead currently airing its eleventh and final season, the larger franchise remains is still growing. With two spinoff series under their belt, the popular comic book turned pop culture phenomenon announced an upcoming anthology series for the post-apocalyptic universe. And if fans weren’t already excited enough for the upcoming AMC series, titled Tales of the Walking Dead, Olivia Munn — among some other promising Hollywood names — was recently announced to be joining the expanding universe.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Olivia Munn has joined the cast of the upcoming series alongside Danny Ramirez (The Falcon and the Winter Soldier), Loan Chabanol (The Transporter Refueled), Embeth Davidtz (The Morning Show, Ray Donovan), and Jessie T. Usher (The Boys). The newest installment of celebs joins the already announced inclusion of Terry Crews (Brooklyn 99), Parker Posey ( Mascots), Jillian Bell (Workaholics), Anthony Edwards (ER), and Poppy Liu (Sunnyside). An impressive ensemble, the new cast members will be featured in the episodic anthology that takes place in The Walking Dead universe following the adventures of new characters as well as those from the original series.  Channing Powell, writer, and producer of the original show and Fear of the Walking Dead will serve as showrunner. Writer and producer Scott Gimple will executive produce.

Tales of the Walking Dead marks the fourth spinoff in the popular zombie franchise that first went viral in 2010. After The Walking Dead’s sensational mainstream success, AMC ordered the series first spinoff, Fear the Walking Dead in 2015. The spinoff series serves as a prequel that followed a different group of characters from the very beginning of the zombie breakout. Still airing, the series is set to complete its seventh season this coming Spring. Another series, World Beyond only lasted for two seasons. Olivia Munn’s Tales of the Walking Dead is set to premiere on AMC over the summer, allowing it to run alongside The Walking Dead’s eleventh and final season.

Olivia Munn recently starred in the Justine Bateman-directed drama, Violet — a film about an executive producer paralyzed by self-doubt. She also played the role of a single mother in the crime thriller, The Gateway. But most notable to Munn’s new take on the zombie apocalypse might be from her role in the supernatural horror film, Deliver Us from Evil. As for the more personal side of Munn’s life, the 41-year-old actress has also found a new full-time career in becoming a mother. Munn birthed a son with comedian John Mulaney in November 2021.

Since first airing on Halloween night in 2010, The Walking Dead has remained a staple cable television franchise over the years. And despite losing viewership with the flagship’s most recent seasons, AMC looks to continue the lucrative franchise. Other than the new Olivia Munn-backed anthology series, AMC also has plans to create a spinoff series based on two of the franchise’s most beloved characters, Daryl and Carol. The untitled series is slated to debut on AMC sometime in 2023. The six-episode anthology will premier sometime this summer.
