If you’re a die-hard Nicolas Cage fan, then you may want to sit down before we break the news to you. In a recent interview with Vanity Fair, the Dream Scenario actor suggests that he only has three or four movies left in him before he retires from acting in movies and shifting his focus onto other projects.

Though he’s not necessarily done with acting, the 60-year-old actor cites wanting to spend more time with his family as one of the reasons he wants to pump the breaks on what has up to this point been an impressively prolific career.

Nicolas Cage Has Done It All

Speaking of prolific, Nicolas Cage has starred in over 100 films over the last several decades. Stating that his primary goal has always been to explore the edge of screen performance, Cage has done just that throughout his career. From his gut-wrenching Academy Award-winning performance in Leaving Las Vegas to his absolutely unhinged portrayal of himself being portrayed by John Travolta in Face/Off, it’s safe to say that Cage has done it all at this point, and he wants to end his film career on a high note.

His Most Recent Film Is A Career Highlight

While the 2010s saw the actor brazenly taking on a number of questionable roles while grappling with a number of financial difficulties, Nicolas Cage is currently in the middle of a renaissance that simply cannot be rivaled. His most recent effort, Dream Scenario is tearing up the headlines, and many critics consider it to be a career highlight. As of this writing, the surreal A24 dramedy has been met with universal acclaim, garnering a 92 percent critical score on Rotten Tomatoes.

A Move To Television?

So what does the future hold for Nicolas Cage? The actor said himself that he’s on the precipice of a massive change in his career, but he’s not 100 percent sure what he’s going to get into next. But in the same breath, he did express interest in pursuing projects that are more episodic in nature, citing Breaking Bad alum Bryan Cranston’s television career as inspiration for his own.

Though Nicolas Cage has appeared in countless films, he hasn’t ever graced our television screens in this capacity, and says he’s up for the challenge that developing a character over years would present. But at the present moment, Cage acknowledges that he’s accomplished everything he’s wanted to accomplish on the cinematic front.

Going Out With A Bang

Aside from his upcoming release slate that pushes us well into 2025, Nicolas Cage will probably call it quits after three or four more films, which have yet to be revealed. As he slows down and gets ready to retire from acting in movies, he wants to be more selective when it comes to his few future roles, and go out with a bang. Of those few titles, we’re hoping that we see the Face/Off sequel that has been talked about over years, but hasn’t fully materialized at this point in time. As we approach the twilight phase of Nicolas Cage’s legendary career, we weep over the tremendous loss we’re about to face. But when one door closes, another one opens, and we have reason to believe that he’ll continue to push the envelope for years to come whether it’s on the big screen or a small one.
