Netflix Shonen Anime Is Famous For Gorgeous Battles Across Generations

Every season of JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure has a different plot and new faces. No matter who becomes the new focus of the anime, the overarching story stays the same, focusing on the Joestar family across several generations as they discover their powers and follow their destiny to fight supernatural enemies.

Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure

JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure is made up of a total of five seasons, following five generations of Jostars. The first season focused on the Phantom Blood and Battle Tendency arc and was released in 2012. Stardust Crusaders, Diamond is Unbreakable, Golden Wind, and Stone Ocean comprise Seasons 2, 3, 4, and 5.

In addition to this newer show, there is also a TV mini-series that ran from 1993 to 2002 and focused on three members of the Joestar family fighting an enemy together. This series focused on the Stardust Crusaders arc, which is Season 2 of the new adaptation.

Bizarre Is The Best Way To Describe It

JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure stands out amongst other Shonen anime for several reasons. Not only does it reference a lot of Western culture, such as settings, fashion, and music, but the story and Stands are quite interesting and memorable. The art style is unique as well, using heavy shading and bright colors.

Another reason the series is so memorable is right in the name. It’s called JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure, and bizarre is the best way to describe it. There’s no way to tell what’s coming next in the show; from vampires to invisible babies, this anime is sure to take any new viewers for the ride of their life.

Stand Is A Different Type Of Battle System

The unusual fighting style in the anime also makes for a remarkable series. On the surface, the show has unique supernatural abilities and a multitude of fights where these powers grow and upgrade. Once you dip below the surface, though, you get something completely different.

Instead of fighting the enemy directly, most of the conflicts throughout JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure occur between or with stands. It’s a battle system completely different from other popular Shonen anime. While strength is one facet of any fight, more often, the main focus is on riddles and battles of wit.

Figuring Out A Stand Power Is Half The Battle

Until the protagonists can figure out who the stand user is, how the power works, and its weaknesses, nothing can be done. Sometimes, a flurry of fists is the answer, leading to some classic fighting scenes, but more often than not, it’s quick thinking and flexibility in a fight that will determine the winner. Despite mostly a battle of wits, the fight scenes aren’t boring and are in fact tense moments throughout the anime filled with stunning artistic style.

No Training, No Mentors, Only Stand

These stands are interesting because there’s no training and no learning from masters. For the most part, stands are unique to the user, and when they die, the stand vanishes. Stands are based on the psyche of the user and embody the person’s life energy and mental state.

Despite the strangeness, it’s a very popular series. Nearly every season on MAL is rated an eight or higher on average by members.

If you want to try out this strange and gorgeous anime, Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure is available to watch on Netflix. Just be prepared to question everything you know about Shonen anime, and don’t expect to guess what happens next at any point in the series.
