We’re Getting More Margot Robbie As Harley Quinn
After James Gunn's The Suicide Squad this year, it looks as though we might not have seen the last of Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn.

After starring in last year’s Birds of Prey, Margot Robbie will soon be reprising the character of Harley Quinn for James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad. As of right now, there are no official plans for Robbie to play Harley Quinn in another film, yet it seems as though Gunn and Robbie are talking about a return for Harley Quinn.
Recently on his Instagram, James Gunn was taking questions, when one fan asked if he had any plans to work with Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn in a future project. In his reply, Gunn stated that he and Robbie had just discussed the possibilities of having the character return.
Odds are, if James Gunn and Margot Robbie did team back up – especially in a movie where Robbie plays Harley Quinn – the project would probably be The Suicide Squad 2. While Gunn and Robbie’s The Suicide Squad doesn’t come out until August 6, 2021, it seems extremely likely that a sequel would be in the works. Even after the fan dislike over David Ayer’s Suicide Squad, and the financial disappointment of Birds of Prey, Robbie’s performance is absolutely worth continuing in future projects.
There are already a few other projects that have been in various stages of production that would include Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn. One such film is Harley Quinn vs. the Joker, which would explore the toxic relationship between these characters. Glenn Ficarra and John Requa, who previously directed Crazy, Stupid, Love have completed the script, and are planned to be co-directors and co-writers on the project, although it’s unclear if and when this project would begin filming.
There were also plans for a Gotham City Sirens film, which would include Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, along with Poison Ivy and Catwoman. David Ayer had originally signed on to direct the project, but early last year stated the project was on hold. While Robbie has said she still wants to make the film, it’s unclear if the box office disappointment of Birds of Prey has changed the possibility of this film getting made.
While it does seem like James Gunn and Margot Robbie’s likely next project together would be The Suicide Squad 2, it might be a while before either have time to make a sequel. Amongst many projects, Robbie is signed on for a live-action Barbie film from Greta Gerwig and Noah Baumbach, David O. Russell’s latest film, and a new series of Pirates of the Caribbean films, just to name a few.
Meanwhile, James Gunn has already wrapped Margot Robbie in The Suicide Squad long ago and Gunn is currently filming The Suicide Squad spinoff series, Peacemaker. Once that project is done, Gunn will be starting principal photography for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, which isn’t scheduled for release until 2023. Between filming, post-production, and press for all these projects, it’s likely Gunn won’t be working with Robbie again until 2023 at the earliest.
But it is exciting to know that James Gunn is up for making another film with Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, whether that is in The Suicide Squad 2, or another project for DC.
