Karen Gillan might not be the most recognizable face in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but that’s because she’s one of the actresses who goes through a massive transformation to get into character. But even if you wouldn’t know she played the part, she’s also been incredibly integral to the previous storylines. So it’s exciting that Gillan has confirmed she’s still in the Marvel mix and will next appear on screen as Nebula in Thor: Love and Thunder.

The news of the casting was confirmed through Karen Gillan’s Instagram page, but the clip in question is below:

It’s here that Karen Gillan is answering a question about her hair and whether she’s wearing a wig or not. This leads to her talking about how when she wears the Nebula costume, it takes an incredible amount of work to get her natural hair into the head cap. This little throwaway line is just the confirmation we were waiting for from the actress and continues to add to an already awesome cast.

Karen Gillan was last seen in the Marvel Cinematic Universe in Avengers: Endgame when an iteration of her character nearly submarined the Avengers’ whole plan and turned the universe permanently over to Thanos. But the *good* version of her was able to come through and she finally saw the end of her father.

And it makes sense that Karen Gillan would pick back up with this next Thor movie. In the final scene of the movie, we see that she’s again set to join the other Guardians of the Galaxy, along with Thor as they try to decide who’ll be in charge of the ship going forward. It was clear the characters were linked at least in the short term and continuing on further adventures.

This Thor: Love and Thunder news for Karen Gillan/ Nebula follows a number of casting decisions for the film which could be an event. We already know Chris Pratt is coming back as Star-Lord and Tessa Thompson will reprise her Valkyrie role. Plus Natalie Portman is actually coming back as well and will once again play Jane Foster. And one of the more surprising casting pieces came out yesterday with word that Matt Damon would once again make an appearance after playing an actor in Thor: Ragnarok.

Besides the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Karen Gillan is also involved in another successful franchise, one in which you can actually tell it’s her. She played a major role in the first two Jumanji reboots, Welcome to the Jungle and The Next Level. Apparently, a third movie is in the works, but they haven’t gotten all of the pieces worked out yet

As of right now, Thor: Love and Thunder is part of Marvel’s Phase Four and is just getting underway. But don’t hold your breath. The release date isn’t until February 11, 2022. So it’s going to be some time before we get Karen Gillan back in the Nebula costume.
