Without a doubt, one of the most entertaining characters ever created for the big screen is Captain Jack Sparrow. Much credit should first be given to writers Ted Elliott and Terry Rossio, as they were the creators of Captain Jack, but it was Johnny Depp’s take on the material that made it all work in the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise.

Throughout the franchise’s history, which consists of the five films – The Curse of the Black Pearl, Dead Man’s Chest, At World’s End, On Stranger Tides, and Dead Men Tell No Tales – Captain Jack has entertained audiences in a number of different and comedic ways. We have come up with five of the most hilarious, see if you don’t agree.

Hilarious Johnny Depp Pirates of the Caribbean Moments

5. The Jar of Dirt (Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest)

In the second film of the franchise, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest, Johnny Depp’s Captain Jack finds himself overly obsessed with a large jar of dirt. He is under the belief that this specific jar of dirt is the key to his safety and protection.

In fact, he is so convinced it will protect him, he shows it off to Davey Jones, believing Jones has no choice but to accept it as Captain Jack’s protection. Unfortunately for Jack, Davey Jones does not.

4. The Isla Cruces Wheel Fight (Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest)

Although it is the sword fight of epic proportions between Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp), Will Turner (Orlando Bloom), and James Norrington (Jack Davenport) that set up this scenario, the end result of Captain Jack getting caught in the spokes of a large watermill.

Technically speaking, the sword fight is one of the best in the franchise, making the ending of the fight much more hilarious.

3. The Bank Heist (Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales)

If you know Captain Jack Sparrow, then you know he loves his rum. In the fifth film of the franchise, Dead Men Tell No Tales, Jack apparently has had a nip or two too many before trying to rob a bank in St. Martin.

While his crew does what they can to profit from the robbery, a drunk Captain Jack is not so helpful. Johnny Depp has always been great with slapstick humor.

2. The Escape from Cannibal Island (Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest)

Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest holds a number of hilarious Johnny Depp scenes but it is the escape from the clutches of cannibals that is the highlight of the film. In it, Depp showcases his ability to pull off physical humor with great timing.

In this riotous scene, Captain Jack first must remove himself from the fire pit, then figure out how not to get caught by cannibals while still tied to a large skewer.

1. Captain Jack Sparrow’s Introductory Scene (Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl)

Of all the iconic moments throughout the five films, Johnny Depp’s introduction as Captain Jack Sparrow in Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl, is at the top of the list. Audiences knew, as soon as he appeared on screen, exactly what they were going to get from Depp’s Sparrow and they looked forward to every moment.

The scene is set perfectly, with Captain Jack looking in charge on what appears to be a large pirate vessel. But as we soon see, he is in a small tug and one that is filling with water awfully quickly.

The best moment comes when Captain Jack arrives at the dock just in time as his tug goes underwater, stepping onto the dock with perfect timing. It is one of the most classic entrances of a character ever put on screen.
