John Wick 4 Just Got Dealt Some Bad News

For those hoping to see Keanu Reeves return as John Wick in 2022, we’ve got some bad news for you. Though it was originally slated to release on May 27, 2022, Lionsgate has opted to push John Wick: Chapter 4 nearly a year to March 24, 2023. This is likely due to Paramount’s decision to set the release date of Top Gun: Maverick on May 27 which would be huge Memorial Day competition. Competing with the return of one of Tom Cruise’s biggest roles is something that no studio wants to do.
Although it’s disappointing that we won’t get to see John Wick again for a while, at least Lionsgate released a cool teaser on their Youtube channel to announce the new release date. In the teaser, you can see the communication network used by the assassins in the John Wick franchise receiving the news about the release date change and sending the information out to the world. At least the bad news was delivered in a fun way. Fans of the franchise will have to settle for this brief glimpse of the John Wick world until we can get a proper trailer for John Wick 4.
John Wick: Chapter 4, as the name implies, is the fourth entry of the John Wick franchise. John Wick 4 is directed by Chad Stahelski who has directed all of the films in the series. Star Keanu Reeves returns in the titular role, with Laurence Fishburne, Lance Reddick, and Ian McShane also reprising their characters. Perhaps one of the most exciting newcomers is the legendary Donnie Yen, who will be playing a character named Caine. John Wick is known for its incredible fight choreography and Donnie Yen is probably one of the few people who could bring these already dynamic fights up a notch. Early rumors indicate he’ll be on Wick’s side, but you never know when it comes to a guild of assassins.
Hopefully, Donnie Yen will be a friend because John Wick will be needing all the help he can get. We last saw Keanu’s character in John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum. At the end of this movie, both John Wick and Laurence Fishburne’s Bowery King were battered, bruised, and barely surviving. The movie ends with them vowing to go to war with The High Table (the governing body of the assassin’s guild). The rest of the cast is rounded out by potential friends and foes that include Bill Skarsgård, Hiroyuki Sanada, Shamier Anderson, Rina Sawayama, Scott Adkins, and more. As with any JohnWick movie, John Wick 4 is sure to be packed with cool fights, assassin intrigue, and Keanu Reeves generally kicking some ass.
