What is Jim Carrey going to do next in his career? This has been a big question of late. Currently, insiders for We Got This Covered claim he’s in talks to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe. There isn’t yet any word on which characters he may play.

These are just talks, so there’s no guarantee he’ll sign on to take up a role. Previously, we’ve seen Jim Carrey play a villain for 1995’s Batman Forever. He played Riddler for the Joel Schumacher film. We’ve seen Carrey play a villain a few other times, such as in Lemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunate Events. He brought a touch of his comedic acting to both of these roles. It would be easy to see him taking on the role of a villain for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Perhaps a dark and twisted scientist? Of course, there’s no telling what Jim Carrey might be interested in doing at this point. For a while, Carrey seemed to be picking up more dramatic roles, but he recently did well with Sonic the Hedgehog.

Rumors over the past few months have said he was interested in creating sequels for some of his past hits. These rumors pointed at some of his comedic roles as well as his more dramatic. A sequel project for Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind was discussed. This was unusual since in the past Jim Carrey has only done two sequels for his movies. Both of the sequels were some of his poorer rated films. After, he said he wouldn’t be taking up any more sequels to his movies. He stuck with that claim, even when many of his movies picked up big box office success that we would now expect to lead into a franchise. If Carrey does join the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it’s likely it would mean many sequels. Perhaps his experiences have changed his mind on avoiding franchises where possible.

While we haven’t seen Jim Carrey as much on the big screen in recent years, he’s still been around. He was briefly playing the role of Joe Biden on SNL. He took up painting and shares a lot of his work on social media. For two seasons, he had a television series called Kidding. He was nominated for a Golden Globe for his role in that series. While his career has been long and varied, it’s his more comedic roles we often think of him for. Movies like The Mask, Ace Ventura, and Bruce Almighty are some of the common roles to get brought up. The types of comedies he was known for aren’t what we see so much on the screen these days.

It seems like Jim Carrey is at a point where he’s deciding on his next big thing. Could a Marvel Cinematic Universe movie be it? While these are still just talks, it would certainly be interesting to see what kind of role he takes on.
