At long last, the trailer for Jennifer Lopez’s upcoming sci-fi flick, Atlas, has dropped, giving audiences a better understanding of what’s to come from the Netflix feature set to arrive on May 24. The Brad Peyton (San Andreas) helmed feature showcases a myriad of impressive set designs that truly transport the viewer to a different world while Lopez’s data analyst fights to stay alive during a mission gone horribly wrong.

This will be the latest project to come from Netflix’s partnership with Jennifer Lopez as, prior to Atlas, the duo entertained audiences with such titles as Jennifer Lopez: Halftime and The Mother.

The first few moments of the trailer are filled with panic as Jennifer Lopez’s character, Atlas Shepherd, finds herself in a sticky situation far from home. Catching us up on the moments that led to her dismay, the teaser digs into some background on Atlas’ life before the predicament she now finds herself in. The film will certainly not be short of action – specifically in explosion form – as most of the first look is packed with pulse-pounding moments with futuristic spacecraft shooting off lasers before Atlas emergency crashes on a planet all by her lonesome.

Along with explosions and high-energy sequences, if there’s another thing, this movie has plenty of its star power – and no, we’re not alluding to the cosmos that surround its main players. What we’re getting at is that Jennifer Lopez isn’t the only big Hollywood name to appear in Atlas with the rest of the call sheet, including names like Academy Award nominee Sterling K. Brown (American Fiction), Simu Liu (Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings), Mark Strong (Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy), and Lana Parrilla (Spin City).

It also proves that she’s still one of the most sought-after names in the biz as not only has Lopez been working with Netflix, but she’s also paired up with their rival streaming service Amazon’s Prime Video, for her recent projects, This Is Me … Now: A Love Story and Shotgun Wedding.

Jennifer Lopez’s Atlas debuts on Netflix on May 24.

Just as Jennifer Lopez has been a familiar face in the world of action flicks – having previously appeared in skull-crushing movies like The Cell, Enough, and Lila & Eve, the same can be said about Atlas’ helmer, Brad Peyton. Those dedicated to catching Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson in most of his films will recognize the director’s handiwork in titles like Rampage, San Andreas, and Journey 2: The Mysterious Island. In the world of television, Peyton, again like Lopez, has previously brought Netflix subscribers other content like Daybreak.

Netflix’s 2024 is already off to a good start as, before Jennifer Lopez and the rest of the cast of Atlas celebrate their arrival on the streamer, other projects like the gone-too-soon The Brothers Sun, Avatar: The Last Airbender, The Gentlemen, and Damsel will keep viewers entertained. The rest of the year isn’t looking too shabby either, as there’s plenty more on the way, with Cameron Diaz making her grand return to acting alongside Jamie Foxx in Back in Action, Eddie Murphy getting back on the case in Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F, and Mark Wahlberg and Halle Berry play exes on a mission in The Union.
