Idris Elba Is The New James Bond?
Rumors are suggesting that Idris Elba might finally be in talks to take on the role of James Bond. That would certainly be a huge fan-casting win.
Idris Elba is arguably one of the coolest actors in the business currently. The man possesses a level of suave and elegance that has led to him being linked to playing 007 for quite some time. At least, that is fans have seen it. Now it appears as if those talks have grown a bit more real. There are reports suggesting that Idris Elba will be James Bond, or he is at least being heavily targeted for the role. It would honestly make a ton of sense for him to take over, and it would be welcomed by a lot of fans around the world.
Producer of the Bond franchise, Barbara Broccoli, had commented on the rumors that Idris Elba would be James Bond. According to her, “Well, we know Idris, we’re friends with him, and he’s a magnificent actor… And, you know, it’s been part of the conversation, but it’s always difficult to have the conversation when you have someone in the seat.” The seat she is talking about has to do with Daniel Craig finishing up his time as 007. No Time to Die came out in 2021, and Broccoli wanted Craig’s time to fully finish before they began to even speak about someone else taking over. That is a level of respect that Craig has certainly earned.
Idris Elba commented on James Bond rumors some time ago as well. According to the actor, “If someone said to me ‘Do you want to play James Bond?,’ I’d be like, Yeah! That’s fascinating to me. But it’s not something I’ve expressed, like, ‘Yeah, I wanna be the black James Bond.'” That is certainly one way of looking at things, considering that Elba should be considered for the role based on his acting ability and not the color of his skin. He added, “And then if I get it and it didn’t work, or it did work, would it be because of the color of my skin? That’s a difficult position to put myself into when I don’t need to.” It sounds like the man has seriously considered joining the franchise but realizes things could get a bit dicey when it comes to the magnitude of being the first colored James Bond.
Regardless of his worries, Idris Elba as James Bond would be spectacular. The man has the acting chops that have led to some fantastic performances. Being Bloodsport in Suicide Squad, was fantastic. Especially considering the character has a rat phobia. Also, he recently wowed audiences as the stone-faced echidna warrior in Sonic the Hedgehog 2, Knuckles. That has also led to the man receiving his own spinoff series that will follow Knuckles’ journey. We can’t wait to see that one. These are just some of his most recent roles, but the man’s resume is a mile long with tons of amazing performances. Elba is one of the best actors of our generation.
We hope that Idris Elba will be James Bond. It seems like the most logical pick, because of the previously mentioned suave attitude that Elba possesses. He can clearly play a myriad of characters with the greatest of ease. As Broccoli stated, he is a fantastic actor, so he should be considered heavily to take on the role of the most famous spy in the history of cinema. Despite his concerns with taking on the role, there are plenty of people that have pegged Elba as being the next Bond. Sometimes the smartest thing is to give the people what they want.
