When you’re trying to reconnect with your children after your partner’s death, there will no doubt be difficulties along the way. You not only have to contend with the emotions your children are experiencing — including some they may not even understand — but your own. Probably the absolute last thing you would ask for in such a situation is to have to literally do battle with a massive, rogue, man-killing lion in its own territory, but that’s exactly where Idris Elba’s character finds himself in the upcoming thriller Beast

Universal Pictures released the first trailer for Beast on Wednesday, and the survival thriller looks exactly as exciting as you would hope for. The trailer opens with Dr. Nate Daniels (Idris Elba) taking his daughters on a trip to South Africa not long after the death of his wife. As the three are traveling through the wilderness with Nate’s friend Martin (Sharlto Copley), they encounter a lion that apparently wants to let everyone know: this lion? It does not sleep tonight. You can watch the blood-racing trailer below.

Did a bloody, torn up Idris Elba just punch a lion in the face? We’re pretty sure Heimdall just punched a lion in the face. We’re not sure how he’s going to look after that punch, though we’re afraid that the way he looks by the time the first five minutes of Avengers: Infinity War is over might be a not awful prediction.

Beast hits theaters on August 19, and that month promises to be a busy one for Idris Elba. Not quite two weBeast hits theaters on August 19, and that month promises to be a busy one for Idris Elba. Not quite two Beast hits theaters on August 19, and that month promises to be a busy one for Idris Elba. Not quite two weeks later — on August 31 — Elba stars in the fantasy romance Three Thousand Years of Longing. Directed by legendary Mad Max director George Miller, Three Thousand Years of Longing will feature Tilda Swinton as scholar Alithea Binnie who unwittingly releases a Djinn (Elba) from his prison and is granted three wishes. At some point later this year, Elba will star in the Netflix original film Luther based on Elba’s popular BBC thriller series.

While it’s far from confirmed, there’s also been little hints that it won’t be too long before Idris Elba returns to role of DC’s Robert DuBois, aka Bloodsport. Monday, The Suicide Squad director James Gunn posted a picture of the character walking alone through the rubble of Corto Maltese and teased fans with the possibility of him returning. It’s already been confirmed that Gunn is working on at least one other The Suicide Squad spin-off series for HBO Max, and of all the leashed supervillains who actually survive the events of the film, Bloodsport seems like one of the most likely candidates.

Beast releases in theaters on Friday, August 19. Along with Idris Elba, the suspenseful wilderness nightmare stars Shartlo Copley (District 9), Leah Jeffries (Empire), and Iyana Halley (This Is Us). The film is directed by Baltasar Kormákur (2 Guns) and written by Ryan Engle (Rampage) and Jaime Primak Sullivan (Breaking In).
