As Indiana Jones 5 is kicking into gear to get production rolling, rumors are circulating. One from TheIlluminerdi and then supposedly reaffirmed by Reddit user SpideyForever245 is that Harrison Ford will make his next outing as the iconic character in space, more specifically as a space race in the 1960s.

The idea of Harrison Ford going toe to toe with Mads Mikkelson (Hannibal) with the backdrop of the space race centers on the villain being a Nazi scientist who starts to work at NASA. The rumor states that he has been recruited to work on the United States’ moon landing mission.

The only validity to it is that the last entry, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, did feature aliens and was set in the 1950s, so a few years later would continue the cosmic direction. Also, the Reddit user did post some things that are true, like how the antagonists will be Nazi scientists, but Nazis in this franchise are not news at all as the whip-wielding Harrison Ford often faces Nazis.

SpideyForever245 also posted other supposed “details.” He posted about George Lucas’ relationship with Disney, like how he wants Kathleen Kennedy, the head of LucasFilm, to be replaced. He supposedly wants more involvement with the fifth installment for the Harrison Ford franchise. At least regarding Kennedy, Disney CEO Bob Chapek shut down the idea that Dave Filoni or Jon Favreau would replace her and closing this point from the Reddit user.

One of the biggest factors in not diving headfirst into the rumors from either source is that this has not been confirmed, and both have had false or at least suspicious reports before. Before posting about Harrison Ford being involved with the space race, SpideyForever245 had a dump of supposed information on the Marvel Cinematic Universe, like how actors would be replaced with younger cast members, one example being a younger replacement for Chris Hemsworth. For TheIlluminderdi, it had an exclusive on Mahershala Ali being the lead role in the HBO adaption of the video game The Last of Us, which was debunked by The Hollywood Reporter. The role of Joel would go to Mandalorian star Pedro Pascal instead.

Harrison Ford Indiana Jones

Crystal Skull has been deemed the worst in the Harrison Ford franchise so far. One major issue fans and critics took was the aliens. It is possible that the film might try to steer away from anything in space.

Taking the rumor lightly with a fist full of salt, we do know some things for the latest Harrison Ford adventure. It will be directed and written by James Mangold (Logan). Phoebe Waller-Bridge (Fleabag) will co-star with Mikkelson and Ford. Boyd Holbrook (Narcos), Toby Jones (Captain America: The First Avenger), Thomas Kretschmann (Avengers: Age of Ultron), and Shaunette Renée Wilson (Black Panther). It will take place years after Crystal Skull; Mangold even hinted at it as his mind is living in “60’s NYC.”

As of earlier this month, production started as it began filming in the UK. Harrison Ford will return to the big screen as his iconic character with this Indiana Jones sequel, which currently does not have an officially known title, on July 28, 2022.
