Guardians Of The Galaxy 3 Gag Reel Reveals Plan For Sequel?

The home release of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 came out this week, and the gag reel may have unintentionally revealed a hint at a sequel. Just shy of four minutes into the reel, we get a blooper from a scene set after Chris Pratt‘s Star-Lord has already returned to Earth to spend time with his grandfather Jason (Gregg Lee Henry). The moment doesn’t reveal too much, but it does show the rest of the Guardians visiting Star-Lord on Earth for some reason, possibly to recruit him for another mission.

A scene in the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 gag reel has Chris Pratt’s Star-Lord reuniting with the team after his stay on Earth with his grandfather.

As you can see in the screenshot above, the shot includes Drax (Dave Bautista), Kraglin (Sean Gunn), Nebula (Karen Gillan), and — most notably — Adam Warlock (Will Poulter). Warlock’s presence is important because it confirms this scene, had it been included, would necessarily be at the end of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 (probably somewhere in the credits) which is why it could hint at a sequel.

We know this because Warlock is in his official Guardians uniform in the shot, which he doesn’t wear for most of the film because it isn’t until after the final battle, in the mid-credits scene, that Warlock joins the team.

The 2017 predecessor Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 holds the record for most mid and post credits scenes in the MCU, but it was also fourteen minutes shorter than Vol. 3

Of course, this could also have been meant as purely a comedic scene, with no Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 sequel hint intended. If you’ve seen the film, then you may remember it does include a post-credits scene set in Jason Quill’s home, though Peter Quill is the only Guardian present. It’s nothing more exciting than Jason and Peter eating breakfast with the latter agreeing to mow the lawn, and the pair complaining about Jason’s stepson.

Rather than the shot in the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 gag reel hinting at a sequel, it’s possible writer/director James Gunn simply filmed multiple potential end credits scenes and stuck with what he thought worked.

Could Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 4 Happen?

While James Gunn and a number of the Guardians actors have made it clear they have no intention of returning to the Marvel franchise, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 does end with the announcement that “The Legendary Star-Lord will return.”

Not to mention it’s completely possible a filmmaker other than Gunn could make Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 4. Fans may remember that while he didn’t show interest in the idea, back when Gunn was fired from Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, Thor: Ragnarok director Taika Waititi was thought by many fans to be the natural successor for the sequel.
