Lucasfilm fired Gina Carano over a month ago now, and the internet is still ablaze with outrage, speculation, vindication… all of it. People on pretty much every side of this situation have expressed an opinion, and some have been far more vitriolic than others. But according to a new rumor, her problematic attitude is not a new thing. In fact, current gossip has it that a fan-favorite franchise fired her long before Disney did.

Scooper writer Daniel Richtman says that the Fast and the Furious franchise fired Gina Carano after her supporting role as Riley Hicks in 2013’s Fast and Furious 6. According to Richtman, the filmmakers behind the Fast movies shared Disney’s view Carano was bad news before The Mandalorian was ever on our radar. It is however worth noting that the Fast and Furious crew briefly considered bringing her back. Of course, that was before Lucasfilm fired her for her controversial social media presence. Please remember that this is merely a rumor at this point and should be taken with a grain of salt. Still, it is interesting that this news “broke” now and could possibly add a new dimension to this ongoing controversy.

Now, it appears that Gina Carano is still having trouble finding work in Hollywood. She does have a new movie deal with The Daily Wire founder and editor Ben Shapiro, but that will reach a far narrower audience than her Mandalorian role did. She said things on social media that some people didn’t like and chalked her firing up to “cancel culture,” but it may also be that she wasn’t a good employee.

It is intriguing that nothing was ever said about Gina Carano’s supposed firing from the Fast and Furious series. Of course, because this is a rumor, it could just be a matter of Carano and the studio ignoring it. But still, the Fast and Furious franchise is huge, and with its ninth installment set to hit theaters later this year, it is mildly surprising that no one has come forth with anything about this.

It will be even more interesting to see if we hear anything concrete about this. After all, Gina Carano was one of the bigger parts of The Mandalorian side of the Star Wars universe, and because all of that is still being discussed actively, it would not be surprising if someone let something slip about her role in the Fast and Furious franchise.

There is currently no word yet on when Gina Carano will pop up in that Daily Wire movie, but with word of her ousting from Hollywood all but confirmed, that is likely the only place we will see her in the foreseeable future. Hopefully, if she shows growth, she can come back in some way. She really was not bad at all in The Mandalorian. In fact, her role was a super enjoyable part of the second season. It is a shame that things have shaken out the way they have.
