For those of you who have been wondering about the production of Ghostbusters: Afterlife 2, we’re slowly but surely being clued in on its development. A recent Tweet by @MI_Ghostbusters has shown us some cast photos, including Paul Rudd, Ernie Hudson, and, most surprisingly, William Atherton. And it’s wonderful to know that Atherton will be reprising his role as Walter Peck, the secondary antagonist from the original 1984 Ghostbusters film, in some capacity.

Though a lot of the details about Ghostbusters: Afterlife 2 is being kept under wraps according to IMDb, these recently surfaced photos have stunning implications. For those of you who don’t remember, Walter Peck functioned as one of the secondary antagonists in the first Ghostbusters film and worked as an inspector for the Environmental Protection Agency. He was a thorn in Venkman’s side by using his unwavering bureaucratic policies to file court orders against the Ghostbusters for criminal violation of the EPA.

Though Peck was a skeptic in regard to all things involving the supernatural, his abrasive demeanor was not without merit. In other words, he was right to be concerned about the Ghostbuster’s safety protocols, considering how cavalier they were in using questionable equipment in densely populated metropolitan areas. However, with Ghostbusters: Afterlife 2 in production, he may surprise us with a shift in demeanor while still being a source of comedic agitation to the Ghostbusters.

The new generation in Ghostbusters: Afterlife

As for what we know about Ghostbusters: Afterlife 2, we do know that it will pick up where the preceding film left off. Though the title is subject to change, and sources say that the new sequel will be tentatively titled Ghostbusters: Firehouse. And this name is fitting, considering that one of the post-credit scenes showed us Ernie Hudson’s Winston Zeddemore driving the Ecto-1 back to New York City, and walking through the ruins of the firehouse that once functioned as the Ghostbuster’s headquarters.

Although the New York City setting was revealed at the end of Ghostbusters: Afterlife, sources indicate that Afterlife 2 will take place in London, England. And a change of scenery could be all we need to keep moving this franchise forward in new and exciting ways!

It’s safe to assume that Ghostbusters: Afterlife 2 will continue to give an affirmative nod to the original Ghostbusters while also expanding the universe going forward. If the storytelling is great, and all of our favorite characters are on board, then the franchise will continue to have as strong of an impact today as it did back in 1984. It’s already been confirmed that Bill Murray and Dan Aykroyd are on board to return, so let’s see what kind of ghosts they can bust across the pond in jolly old England.

Needless to say, we’re excited for Ghostbusters: Afterlife 2 or Firehouse to come out in December. Considering how successful Afterlife was both commercially and critically, we know that the franchise is in good hands, and we can’t wait to see more developments.
