Charlie Cox last played Matt Murdock/Daredevil in 2018 when Netflix ended his series. Ever since, fans have wanted to know when they’ll see the actor play the character again. As Marvel regained the rights to the character, it only seemed fitting that we’d be seeing him soon, but the actor hasn’t let us in on what’s happening yet. Fortunately, Giant Freakin Robot was able to learn some insider information from one of our trusted and proven sources. Charlie Cox is returning to the screen as Daredevil very soon. In fact, he’ll be playing Matt Murdock for the upcoming Disney+ Hawkeye series.
Though Hawkeye has already completed filming, we haven’t learned a lot about the Disney+ series. An appearance by Charlie Cox as Daredevil will be big news and an exciting draw to get fans into the new series. Our source also shared that they’ve heard Daredevil will have a big role in Echo, a spinoff series for Hawkeye. It will make a lot of sense then for them to introduce his character on Hawkeye for Disney+ audiences, who may not have been watching the Marvel character when he was on Netflix. Geekosity also heard from their insider that Daredevil will be appearing in Echo. That series is still a ways off, but shows that Marvel is looking ahead with their Disney+ series and plans for their characters, including the Defenders.
Will Daredevil be the only one of the Defenders to show up in Hawkeye? This is a good question, and fortunately, our source was able to say that more Defenders can be expected, though they weren’t able to share who. They also shared that Bullseye, the character from season three of Netflix’s Daredevil, will be again appearing on screen soon.
There was always the chance that when Marvel got back the rights to the Defenders characters from Netflix, that they would recast the characters when they brought them back. More and more, that’s proving to be something we don’t have to worry about, which is a huge relief to fans of Charlie Cox and the other actors who originally played these charachters on Netflix. After investing so much time in them before, it would have been a shame to simply start over with a whole new Daredevil. Now, we’ll get to see Marvel bring the actor and his version of the character into Hawkeye. Since Disney+ has already shown that their streaming series are part of the established Marvel Cinematic Universe, it opens the door for anything to happen with Charlie Cox in the future.
It will be interesting to see how they use Charlie Cox’s character on Hawkeye. Will they play up the Matt Murdock, lawyer, side of his character? Will it be mostly Daredevil, the superhero? He’ll be joining up with Jeremy Renner as the Clint Barton version of Hawkeye on the series, but the main character will be Kate Bishop, played by Hailee Steinfeld. This mix of the three characters is such a good portrait of where Marvel is at on screen. You have Jeremy Renner, who played Hawkeye early on in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, meeting up with a new Hawkeye, and a Daredevil being reintroduced to audiences as he joins the proper Marvel Cinematic Universe. While we only know a little about Hawkeye so far, what our sources have shared proves that it’s going to be an interesting player in how Marvel stories are moving forward.
