Last week, Emilia Clarke was spotted filming more scenes for Marvel Studios’ Secret Invasion. Best known for her role as Daenerys Targaryen on Game of Thrones, the 35-year-old actress was seen walking alongside co-star Kingsley Ben-Adir in Halifax, England. And Twitter user @bishopluvbot captured a few videos from the Piece Hall set. It’s still unclear who Emilia Clarke is playing in the new Disney+ show. But there’s been a lot of speculation from comic book fans who think she could be a Skrull or S.W.O.R.D.’s Abigail Brand. Speculation of the latter was fuelled when she was seen on set with Samuel L. Jackson (Nick Fury) and Cobie Smulders (Maria Hill). However, in the new video, she is spotted leaving an explosion with Ben-Adir who is the series lead bad guy.

The video of the explosion in Secret Invasion, and then Emilia Clarke’s character coolly leaving the scene with the villain, can be seen below.

Details of the show’s plot are being kept under wraps for now. But Emilia Clarke’s Secret Invasion is said to be an adaptation of the comic book created by Brian Michael Bendis, Leinil Francis Yu, Mark Morales, and Laura Martin. The story is said to follow Nick Fury who tries to save Earth from the Skrulls, who have infiltrated all aspects of life on the planet. Rumors also suggest that S.W.O.R.D., a more cosmic-based companion of S.H.I.E.L.D., will be featured on the show. S.W.O.R.D.’s existence was hinted at during the post-credits scene in Spider-Man: Far From Home post-credits scene. And it was officially introduced in WandaVision.

The series will be led by Marvel Cinematic Universe mainstay Samuel L. Jackson who will reprise his role as Nick Fury for the twelfth time. He will be joined by Captain Marvel’s Ben Mendelsohn who is returning as Talos, the pseudo-leader of the Skrulls. Cobie Smulders also returns as Maria Hill, a former high-ranking S.H.I.E.L.D. agent who works closely with Fury. Kingsley Ben-Adir is also joining the Emilia Clarke stares as the series’ main villain. Oscar-winner Olivia Colman, Killian Scott, Christopher McDonald, and Carmen Ejogo will appear in roles that are still undisclosed.

Filming began in late 2021 in London under the working title “Jambalaya”, with Sylvaine Dufaux serving as cinematographer. Kyle Bradstreet takes on duties as head writer for the Emilia Clarke series, with Thomas Bezucha and Ali Selim set to direct. Secret Invasion is set to premiere exclusively on Disney+ in 2022 and will consist of six episodes.

For Emilia Clarke, who gained an entire galaxy of adoring fans after her role in Solo: A Star Wars story, working in the realm of comics is the next step in a lifelong love of that world. The self-described fangirl also made her comic book debut when her alter ego Qi’ra, returned to the franchise in Star Wars: War of the Bounty Hunters.

In an interview with Comic Book, Emilia Clarke opened up about her Secret Invasion casting by explaining why she decided to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe. “I just think what they’re doing right now is so exciting and so cool, and so on the cutting edge of it. I feel like they’re like the Apple of this world,” she said. “Honestly speaking, the people that are making this are what pushed me over the line to want to do it. I just think that everyone’s heart and heads are in the right place with this one.”
