Dwayne Johnson

Dwayne Johnson has become an integral part of DC’s post-Snyder Cut plans. With Black Adam finally hitting theaters next year, the actor is already set to storm into the DC Extended Universe in a big way. Apparently, though, Johnson wants to start producing DC films in addition to starring in them. Starting with one that we are pretty sure won’t ever happen.

Geekosity reports that Dwayne Johnson has expressed interest in producing Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel 2. This conflicts with the recent announcement that Warner Bros. would not be continuing Snyder’s sprawling vision for his DC Universe. But according to Mikey Sutton, Geekosity’s founder and owner, Johnson is a huge fan of Zack Snyder’s work and is campaigning to restore that vision, which fans have dubbed the “SnyderVerse.” Please keep in mind that this is a rumor at this point. Nothing has been confirmed by the studio yet.

It’s worth noting that Sutton’s report also mentions that AT&T, WarnerMedia’s parent company, sees Zack Snyder’s interpretations of these decades-old heroes as profitable characters worth exploring, even if WB does not. Dwayne Johnson seems to agree with AT&T, and reportedly wants the second Man of Steel film to set the stage for Black Adam 2. If Warner Bros. knew what was good for them, they would at least hear him out. The guy is a certified money-maker, and teaming him up with Ben Affleck, Gal Gadot, and Henry Cavill would be a dream for many superhero fans.

The confusion around what DC and Warner Bros. are actually up to seems to be growing more and more every day. Their frequent change-ups contrast with the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s cohesive structure and clear direction, which is probably why the DC Extended Universe has struggled so profoundly since its creation. That’s not to knock DC or Warner Bros.; they have made some incredibly good movies, but overall they just cannot seem to touch Marvel’s success. Even with help from Dwayne Johnson. But maybe this is the actor’s way of saying, “Hey, this is how you can succeed and make everybody happy. Let me make you money!”

Regardless of where the DC Extended Universe is headed, it will be interesting to see what ends up happening with this project specifically. As previously stated, it is only a rumor right now and it directly contradicts everything we have heard about what DC and Warner Bros. want for the DC Extended Universe. But Dwayne Johnson has been very vocal about wanting to work with Henry Cavill in some capacity, and it does not look like he plans on giving up.

In terms of what is up for him next superhero-wise, Dwayne Johnson will be showing up in Black Adam when it thunders into theaters in July 2022, so be sure to catch him there. He is also set to star in Disney’s Jungle Cruise film alongside Emily Blunt, as well as in Red Notice. Sadly, it has been confirmed that he will not be appearing in Fast and the Furious 9.
