After taking on the entertainment industry as both a music superstar and celebrated actor, Donald Glover is ready to reclaim his seat at the head of the table but this time as the co-creator of a Prime Video thriller series titled Swarm. Just dropping today, a teaser, which you can see below, gives viewers a very eerie surface-level look at the horror set to unfold when the show arrives on the streamer on March 17, 2023. Introducing us to the main players, the first look is definitely giving us a new-age Misery vibe with Dominique Fishback (The Last Days of Ptolemy Grey) playing a fan who takes obsession to chaotic levels.

With unsettling ASMR-like sounds playing throughout, the snippet introduces us to the world of the Donald Glover and Janine Nabers (Watchmen) co-created Swarm. Without giving too much of the story away, we see the leading character Dre (Fishback) tuning into TV spots, internet videos, and other forms of content that feature a pop superstar. Throughout the teaser the words “who’s your favorite artist?” play over and over again, leading viewers into a similar sense of insanity that we can already feel building for Dre in a slew of horror-centered imagery.

From what we know about the series, Dre is a diehard fan of a mega-pop star similar to a member of Beyoncé’s Beyhive or Taylor Swift’s Swifties. As displayed in the teaser, the show will delve into Dre’s superfan psyche which will cause her to lose her sense of reality and direction while she obsesses and fawns over her favorite artist. Although Donald Glover’s name is only attached in a behind-the-scenes capacity, with the star not expected to make an appearance on the upcoming series, Swarm will see Dominique Fishback star opposite Grammy-nominated singer and actress Chloe Bailey (Jane) and Damson Idris (Snowfall).

Donald Glover in Atlanta

Previously teaming up to work alongside one another on the hit series Atlanta, Donald Glover and Janine Nabers are circling the wagons once again for Swarm which will see the two not only as co-creators but also as executive producers. Splitting off from one another, Nabers will serve the series as showrunner and will also co-write it alongside Jamal Olori with Glover adding his vision and setting the project’s tone as the series’ debut episode director. Along with starring, Dominique Fishback also joins as a producer with Stephen Glover, Michael Schaefer, Steven Prinz, and Fam Udeorji completing the executive production team.

For Donald Glover, Swarm will mark the multi-hyphenated creative’s latest piece of work to come out following the end of his four-season-running comedy-drama series Atlanta which bowed out in November 2022. While he may not have any plans for his music career through which he performs under his stage name, Childish Gambino, the Community star will be appearing in an A-list television adaptation of the 2005 comedy spy thriller, Mr. & Mrs. Smith. In it, Glover will star opposite Maya Erskine (Pen15) alongside an all-star cast set to include Parker Posey (Best in Show), Paul Dano (The Fabelmans), Wagner Moura (The Gray Man), Michaela Coel (Black Panther: Wakanda Forever), and John Turturro (The Big Lebowski).
