Alyssa Milano Got Shannon Doherty Fired From Charmed According To Co-Star

Holly Marie Combs recently sat down with Shannon Doherty on Doherty’s Let’s Be Clear podcast and revealed that she called a meeting with the producer of Charmed in the early 2000s to get to the bottom of why Doherty was fired from the series. As it turns out, the reason for Doherty’s dismissal from the show lies with her co-star, Alyssa Milano.

Charmed was a popular American television series that originally aired from 1998 to 2006, centering its narrative around the lives of three Halliwell sisters, who discover they’re powerful witches destined to battle against evil. This discovery led them to move in together in the family home, and despite being a textbook example of dysfunctional family dynamics at first, the sisters always had each other’s back when it came to fighting evil. However, it would seem that the dysfunctionality wasn’t just in the script because Alyssa Milano got Shannon Doherty fired from the series.

According to Combs, Alyssa Milano threatened the production team that she would leave the series if they didn’t fire Doherty, and she also threatened to sue the production team for fostering a hostile workplace environment. Combs also hinted at the possibility that Milano had allegedly built a case against her female co-star leads, which she documented every time she felt uncomfortable on set. Combs admits being caught off guard by what the production team revealed because, to her memory, the three haven’t exchanged harsh words either on set or in public.

Furthermore, Combs further stated that tension among the three had occurred on the set, but the crew or guest stars never noticed it. However, while Combs negotiated with the producers, stating that she wouldn’t continue the show without Doherty, the latter publicly stated that she had quit the show.

In addition, the production team also threatened Holly Marie Combs with a breach of contract lawsuit if she quit the show. So, Charmed continued with Holly Marie Combs and Alyssa Milano as its leads. They were then joined by Rose McGowan.

Admittedly, it would seem that Alyssa Milano—allegedly—stacked a deck against her co-stars and the production team by going to a corporate mediator whenever she felt uncomfortable on set for whatever reason, whereas both Doherty and Combs refused to speak to him.

For her part, Doherty says she can’t remember ever being mean to Milano on set. She says that the possible reason for her rift with Milano was sheer competitiveness between the two, as Doherty was cast based solely on her star power.

Alyssa Milano didn’t comment on the recent situation but has previously shared that she regrets how she treated Shannon Doherty, stating that she lives with the guilt from the past. She also added that she should take responsibility for a lot of the tension that occurred between the two while also citing competitiveness as the main reason for her behavior.
