One of the most surprising announcements for the new Wednesday series being developed for Netflix is that Christina Ricci is set to return to the Addams Family universe. However, though she is returning to the universe, she won’t be returning as some older version of Wednesday or otherwise. Ricci is being cast in an unnamed and secret role. This new role is said to be an important and reoccurring character for the show. It is interesting that she is set to return, but in a way that is not related to Wednesday in any way.

The new role for Christina Ricci is being kept under wraps to allow fans to be surprised. This could mean that she is set to play someone familiar within the Addams Family mythos. Wednesday is being written by Al Gough and Miles Millar, who famously created Smallville. The series will also be directed by the famed macabre master himself, Tim Burton. Ricci had apparently been working in secret for weeks on the MGM lot in Romania, where the series is currently being filmed. The show is said to be a coming-of-age comedy that follows Wednesday Addams during her time at the Nevermore Academy. There are said to be sleuthing and supernatural elements added as well.

Jenny Ortega has been cast as Wednesday Addams with Catherine Zeta-Jones landing the role of Morticia, with Luis Guzman being cast as Gomez Addams. Now all that is left to be revealed is who Christina Ricci is set to appear as. The importance of her role is the only thing that has been revealed thus far. Since Wednesday is attending the Nevermore Academy throughout the series, maybe Ricci might be acting as her mentor or the principal of this academy. This is just a shot in the dark, but it could happen. Ricci was so loved as the original Wednesday from the 1990s Addams Family franchise, that fans began a petition to get her cast into the show. Clearly, all their hard work has paid off, as the actress has now been officially revealed in the show.

Christina Ricci has been quite busy and her most recent work is that of appearing in The Matrix: Resurrections as Gwyn de Vere. She is also the star of Yellowjackets, where she is gearing up to appear in season two of that show. Yellowjackets follow a high school soccer team as they survive a plane crash deep in the Canadian wilderness. The series aired on Showtime. While she is a part of several projects, it is fantastic to see that she is going to be a part of Wednesday. Now fans will have to speculate who she portrays until the series drops on Netflix sometime later this year.

Christina Ricci was one of the stars of the 1990s Addams Family films, as Wednesday. Wednesday and her brother Pugsly were constantly finding ways to pick fights with one another. This mostly consisted of killing one another, at least that was always what was hinted at when the camera panned away from the characters. Keep your eyes peeled for the release date of Wednesday in the coming weeks.
