Chris Pine Shines In The Dungeons And Dragons Super Bowl Trailer

Chris Pine displays his best thieving self in the Super Bowl trailer for Dungeons and Dragons.

Chris Pine is having a reasonably big year, with his villainous role in the Florence Pugh and Harry Styles film, Don’t Worry Darling, and his heroic role in the adaptation of the most famous role-playing game in history, Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves. While he is only one of a cast that includes big names like Michelle Rodriguez, Rege-Jean Page, and Hugh Grant (see the full cast list on the IMDb page), it is clear that he is the headliner the studio hopes will bring in the crowds. Luckily for us, the newest preview features Chris Pine in the Super Bowl trailer a few days early, showing off his charisma in the upcoming film.

In the spirit of any good fantasy film, the new spot begins with the movie’s hero narrating the opening, revealing that they face the greatest evil the world has ever seen, and they need a team. What follows are quick cuts of each actor who will participate in the mission taken on by the team in split-second moments of action and adventure that leaves us salivating for more. The trailer then ends with, who can only be suspected as his number two, Michelle Rodriguez, asking how they are going to pull off the mission, and in true Pine style, he agrees to figure it out over a drink.

Chris Pine’s involvement in the picture goes from part of an ensemble to headliner in the Super Bowl trailer. With up-and-coming actors like Rege-Jean Page (Bridgerton and The Grey Man), Sophia Lillis (It: Chapter One and Chapter Two), and Justice Smith (Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom and Pokemon: Detective Pikachu), it is easy to assume veterans like Pine, Rodriguez, and Hugh Grant are there simply for support. When setting up what can only be imagined as a massive franchise launch, the younger actors are the ones typically tapped to carry the future.

The cast of Dungeons and Dragons

Chris Pine is no stranger to franchises or Super Bowl trailers, as he has anchored multiple big movie casts in the past, including playing Captain James T. Kirk in the reboot trilogy of Star Trek. He also starred alongside Gal Gadot in both Wonder Woman films. And let’s not forget the massive Disney undertaking of their hopeful but failed franchise launch in A Wrinkle in Time

Michelle Rodriguez is also no stranger to franchises, as she has starred in two of the biggest franchises of all time. While she only appeared in the first of the planned five-film Avatar franchise, she is a mainstay in the Fast & Furious films, starring as Letty Ortiz, the significant other of Vin Deisel’s Dominic Toretto. With Chris Pine and Michelle Rodriguez shining in the new Super Bowl trailer, the studio is showing they are ready to double down and build.

Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves may seem incredibly close, releasing on March 31, but after decades of waiting, fans are ready to see a faithful adaptation of their beloved world. Of course, they wouldn’t mind seeing an MCU-level expansion, either.
