Deadpool 3 is one of the most anticipated upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe films, and for good reason. Whereas the other X-Men properties and the Fantastic Four can largely be molded into the general tone of the MCU, the off-color humor and violence of the Merc with a Mouth and this particular interpretation by Ryan Reynolds are pretty inherent to the character. It makes a lot of sense then, from what our trusted and proven sources are telling us that Chris Hemsworth will be showing up in the next Deadpool movie.

Of all the current Marvel Cinematic Universe actors that could theoretically sync up to the appropriate frequency, Chris Hemsworth seems the best choice for Deadpool 3. We will take it for granted that Chris Hemsworth will be reprising the role of the Mighty Thor for the next Deadpool movie, although there is always the off chance he could be playing some multiversal fourth-wall-breaking version of our own world’s Chris Hemsworth. For one thing, Deadpool is never funnier than when he is hopelessly outmatched by a powerful opponent (see: fight against the Juggernaut in Deadpool 2) and seeing Thor irritatingly pounding the mercenary into pulp with Stormbreaker, only for him to regenerate endlessly could be pretty fun.

Another advantage of specifically bringing Chris Hemsworth as Thor into Deadpool 3 is the recent development of the God of Thunder as a comedic character. After the false starts of Thor and Thor: The Dark World and their inert attempts at gravitas, Marvel Studios realized that the character comes off a lot better when you lean into the inherent absurdity of a blonde man with a pseudo-Shakespearian delivery hitting things with a big hammer. Taika Waititi’s Thor: Ragnarok is the closest thing tonally in the MCU to the dark, referential humor of Deadpool and the two might actually pair up well.

Of course, the very next upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe is Chris Hemsworth’s own Thor: Love and Thunder, so he will have to survive that particular journey before he can pop up in Deadpool 3. The law of narrative contractual requirements demands that Thor is probably going to make it through this particular film, regardless of how scary and/or gross Christian Bale Gorr the God Butcher seems. It will really only be a question of how ravaged and traumatized he will be before he gets to bat Ryan Reynolds around for a bit.

We do not yet know whether Chris Hemsworth will be showing up in a supporting role in Deadpool 3 or, more likely, a brief cameo that causes Ryan Reynolds to turn to break the fourth wall and say something snark about his muscles and hunkiness directly to the audience. Fans (and Ryan Reynolds himself) have been desperately clamoring for a Wolverine appearance in Deadpool 3, but it does not yet appear that Hugh Jackman has been worn down enough to break his word about playing Logan once again. For now, fans might just have to be satisfied with Chris Hemsworth and Deadpool teaming up.
