Fans who have been patiently waiting for Tenet actor, Robert Pattinson to hit the big screen in the newest and much-anticipated iteration of The Batman now have something else to look forward to. Deadline recently reported that casting for a new movie solely focused on Batgirl has started and that a select line-up of actresses are now in the process of being screen-tested for the much-coveted role of Barbara Gordon.

Warner Bros. and DC Films currently have their eyes set on a trio of actresses. The confirmed chosen line-up for Batgirl includes Isabella Merced, Zoey Deutch, and Leslie Grace. CBR did mention that Haley Lu Richardson was also under consideration for the role, but that it is likely that she has already passed on the opportunity.

All of the actresses that are under consideration have built up solid work experience on their resumes. Leslie Grace has recently garnered much acclaim for her role in In the Heights. In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly she expressed her gratitude for the success that she has had thus far and her interest in looking for and landing her next role. As it turns out, that next role might very well be Batgirl.

Both Isabella Merced and Zoey Deutch are also well-qualified to take on the role Batgirl. Deutch is best known for performances in ZombieLand: Double Tap and the television series, The Politician, while Merced has had solid experience working on the action film transformers: The Last Knight. She also appeared in the live-action big-screen adaptation of the much-beloved children’s show Dora the Explorer

Warner Bros. and DC Films are being very tight-lipped about the plot of Batgirl, but we know that the villain is slated to be Garfield Lynns, better know as the pyromaniac Firefly. In the comics, Firefly has made appearances alongside the likes of Joker and Scarecrow, as well as Bane and Killer Moth. Because of his wide array of appearances in multiple stories that reside in the DC Universe, it is hard to speculate what exactly the plot will be based on, but it is safe to say that fire will definitely be involved.

While the comics are interesting source material, it would be interesting to see a version of the book, No Man’s Land reach the big screen. The story would lend itself well to a movie about Batgirl, not only because of Firefly’s presence throughout the plot but because of just how integral a role that Babara Gordon plays in the formation and execution of how the story unfolds.

While not much is known about the intended plot for Batgirl, It has been definitively confirmed that a screenplay has been chosen for the film that was authored by Christina Hodson. Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah have been hired to direct. The pair is well suited to take on Batgirl after the success they had in directing Will Smith and Martin Lawrance in Bad Boys for Life. Kristin Burr, who just previously worked on the new Disney movie Cruella, is set to produce.
