Barbie Ferreira Claims Euphoria Ran Out Of Ideas For Her Character

Barbie Ferreira left her role as Kat on HBO's Euphoria as her story is done, and there's nowhere else to go.

Fans were shocked when they found out that Euphoria‘s Barbie Ferreira wouldn’t be returning for Season 3, and rumors began to fly as to why she wouldn’t be reprising her role as Kat. Many thought that the cast members were having issues with how production was being handled on-set, but Ferreira recently explained on an episode of Armchair Expert With Dax Shepard that her decision to leave the HBO series was much simpler than that. Ferreria said, “I don’t think there was a place for her to go,” adding, “I mean, I think that there were places you could go,” and “I just don’t think it would have fit into the show.” (via The Hollywood Reporter).

According to Ferreira, the decision for Kat’s story on Euphoria to be over was a mutual decision between her and creator Sam Levinson. The cast of the show has ballooned since the first season, with multiple storylines and characters to juggle. It seems like this was just a simple case of Ferriera and Levinson feeling like Kat’s story was wrapped up, and it was a natural time for her character to exit the show.

Despite rumors of drama on the set, Ferreira maintained that she enjoyed her experience on Euphoria and is still close with her castmates. During the rest of the interview, she talked about how much fun she had and how shooting the episodes were “the best acting classes ever.” She also addressed the rumors of her walking off-set, which she said might be referring to the time she had to leave to get an X-Ray after spraining her ankle.

Judging by Ferreira’s interview, all is well in the world of Euphoria, which is good because the massively popular HBO series will be returning for a third season. Unfortunately, there isn’t a release date for the next season yet. However, it seems likely that we’ll see new episodes in 2024 at the earliest since filming isn’t scheduled until later this year.

Although Barbie Ferreira won’t be returning for the next season of Euphoria, we can expect that most of the main cast will be back. That includes Zendaya as Rue along with Hunter Schafer, Jacob Elordi, Alexa Demie, Algee Smith, Sydney Sweeney, Maude Apatow, Storm Reid, Nika King, Austin Abrams, Colman Domingo, and Dominic Fike. It remains to be seen if Angus Young, Chloe Cherry, and Javon Walton return to their roles after the events of the end of the season.

One thing is for sure, it doesn’t seem likely that HBO will be giving up on Euphoria anytime soon since the series continues to be a ratings juggernaut. It is the second-most watched original show on HBO behind Game of Thrones, and that’s a success you can’t ignore. However, it’s also worth considering that some of the show’s biggest stars are only getting busier with how much work they’ve been offered after breaking out on the series.

Most notably, Zendaya and Sydney Sweeney continue to get massive roles that likely take up a lot of their time. Zendaya is currently involved in major franchises like the MCU and Dune. Meanwhile, Sweeney is joining Sony’s Spider-Verse of films with Madame Web and has started producing some of the films she’s starring in.

Undoubtedly, Euphoria will have to end at some point. But for now, the series is still going as strong as ever. Stay tuned for more news on this series and other upcoming HBO shows.
