Euphoria concluded its second season almost a year ago, and anticipation for season 3 is at an all-time high. Unfortunately, it looks like fans will have to wait a bit longer for the next installment of the popular HBO Max series to arrive. According to Screen Rant, filming for the third season won’t take place until later this year.

Initially, Euphoria season 3 was expected to begin filming this month, however, series star Maude Apatow confirmed to Vogue that shooting on the third installment will likely take place in the back half of 2023. She told the publication that she was able to star in the Off-Broadway production of Little Shops of Horrors due to a delay in filming on the critically acclaimed show. The new season was originally scheduled to premiere in early 2024, but with a delay in shooting, that date will undoubtedly be pushed back as well.

Although Apatow didn’t offer an explanation as to why filming of Euphoria season 3 has been delayed, it’s probably safe to assume it’s due to the skyrocketing careers of cast members like Zendaya and Sydney Sweeney. Filming on the third season could not take place last year due to Zendaya’s demanding shooting schedule on Dune: Part 2. Meanwhile, Sweeney has several projects of her own in the works, including the hotly anticipated Spider-Man spin-off Madame Web.

It’s also worth noting that Apatow revealed the cast has not yet been handed scripts for Euphoria Season 3. If that’s the case, series creator and writer Sam Levinson is likely fine-tuning the scripts to ensure the new season lives up to audience expectations. After all, Euphoria had a remarkable second season, and it’s undoubtedly getting increasingly challenging for Levinson to top previous installments of the show.

Speaking of Euphoria season 2, even though it ended on a high note, there were several troubling rumors and controversies surrounding the show. In addition to rumors of star Barbie Ferreira and Levinson getting into fights on the set of the series, there were allegedly concerns by some cast members about the amount of nudity featured on the show. We’re crossing our fingers that such drama doesn’t delay season 3 any further.

The first season of Euphoria premiered on June 16, 2019, and was an instant hit with critics and everyday viewers alike. The series offers a look at life for a group of high school students as they grapple with issues of drugs, sex, and violence. The show has won many awards, including multiple Primetime Emmys for Outstanding Single-Camera Picture Editing, Outstanding Cinematography, Outstanding Choreography, Outstanding Lead Actress (Zendaya) and Outstanding Guest Actor (Coleman Domingo).

Along with Zendaya, Sweeney, Ferreira, and Apatow, Euphoria stars Hunter Schafer, Angus Cloud, Jacob Elordi, Alexa Demie, Nika King, Eric Dane, Storm Reid, and Austin Abrams. While plot details for season 3 are scarce, a majority of the mentioned cast members are expected to return. Since an exact date for filming has yet to be announced, there’s no telling when the next season will premiere.
