Babylon 5 creator J. Michael Straczynski just Tweeted something that die-hard fans of the legendary science-fiction franchise have been waiting for: a trailer for the upcoming Babylon 5: The Road Home animated movie. Okay, so the trailer comes out tomorrow according to his tweet, but in an effort to hype up the trailer, we’ve been blessed with an eight-second sneak-peak, which is like a trailer to the trailer! In addition to seeing the full trailer tomorrow, we’ll also be clued in to the exact release date, rating, how to access the content when it’s released, as well as some unknown extras involving the film.

Fans are salivating over the short clip, commenting on how beautiful the CGI animation looks in all its glory. And we have to agree with them. Though we’ve only seen a very small teaser at this point in time, the lighting, shadows, and cinematography looks like we’re in for quite the adventure as J. Michael Straczynski revisits Babylon 5 with this sixth feature film installment.

Twitter user @memmorio expressed excitement, stating that he didn’t expect to see more Babylon 5 content from J. Michael Straczynski, and hopes that the film is successful so that more subsequent releases could be produced.

Stunning animation aside, we’re pleased to know that a lot of the cast from the original live-action Babylon 5 series are involved with The Road Home. Not only did Bruce Boxleitner reprise his role as John Sheridan, but we’ll also be graced with the presence of Claudia Christian, who portrayed Susan Ivanova in the original series. Other notable names from the original series include Peter Jurasik voicing Londo Mollari, Bill Mumy as Lennier, Tracy Scoggins as Captain Elizabeth Lochley, and Patricia Tallman as Lyta Alexander.

With so many OG Babylon 5 actors reprising their roles for the upcoming animated film, as well as J. Michael Straczynski being the brains behind the screenplay and production, it’s safe to say that we’re going to experience a complex, visually stunning, and nuanced addition to the franchise that is in the same spirit of the series that we all know and love. Given Babylon 5’s rich lore and socio-political through lines as the crew navigates through the distant future in an effort to maintain peace through their diplomatic efforts, there is still so much fertile ground to explore in expanding the franchise with The Road Home.

Babylon 5: The Road Home will center on John Sheridan’s journey through the galaxy, and will take place across multiple timelines in his efforts to find his way back home. In Sheridan’s travels, he will come across some familiar faces while being met with new challenges. Since much of the plot is under wraps until tomorrow’s trailer reveal, we’re going to have to sit tight for one more day as more details come to light.

What we do know at the present time, however, is that Babylon 5: The Road Home will be released later this summer and distributed physically on DVD, Blu-ray, 4K, and video on demand by Warner Bros. Discovery Home Entertainment.
