Taylor Swift Fans Could Decide The US Election
Despite centuries of precedence indicating a third party candidate could never sway an American presidential election, it seems as though political analysts have never considered the massive influence of pop superstars like Taylor Swift. Swift previously endorsed President Joe Biden against former President Donald Trump during the 2020 election, much to the chagrin of MAGA voters everywhere. Now, per a report in The Guardian, the 34-year-old singer-songwriter may have enough pull with voters to sway the election in 2024.
Swifties Are Already Changing The World
Taylor Swift’s wealth and influence have already become the subject of massive political change across the world, with her ongoing Eras tour bringing in so much income that it actually has a noticeable impact on the economy of certain cities and countries she chooses to visit. With well over 100 million monthly listeners on Spotify alone, Swift’s global pull cannot be overstated. Now, political analysts seem to agree that if Taylor Swift can convince just a fraction of her listenership to get out and vote this coming November, she could be singlehandedly responsible for the election’s outcome.
No Endorsements Yet
Taylor Swift has not yet offered a formal endorsement of any candidate in the 2024 presidential election. Though, as Election Day draws nearer and nearer, it seems increasingly clear that the American public will be subject to a rematch of 2020, as no viable candidates seem to be challenging Trump or Biden on the campaign trail. While it’s likely that Swift will offer an endorsement of Biden between now and November, the pop star has so-far offered only nebulous calls to action to her massive listenership.
Swift Hasn’t Been A Fan Of Trump In The Past
Since the dust settled on the 2020 election, Taylor Swift has stayed mostly out of politics, and generally avoids answering overtly political questions in interviews. However, she has taken to her social media in recent months to demand that her supporters take to the polls to vote their conscience, without specifically throwing her support by any one nominee. In the past, Swift spoke out against Donald Trump, referencing his poor treatment of women, ethnic minorities, and the LGBTQ+ community, and deriding the at-the-time President for worsening violence at political protests with his fiery rhetoric.
Trump Calls Swift Disloyal
While nothing about Trump’s campaign or platform seem to have changed in regard to any of the aforementioned policies, the two-time popular vote loser has skewered Taylor Swift as “disloyal” for not offering him a 2024 endorsement, while falsely claiming that he is more popular than the number 1 artist in the world right now. Furthermore, Trump’s far-right fringe supporters have maligned Swift as part of a government-funded psy-op to prevent the former President from re-taking the Oval Office, in collaboration with the NFL.
We’ll See In November
Needless to say, the conspiracy theory is equal parts absurd and disturbing, with no fundamental basis in reality. Unfortunately, little details like truth and reality aren’t enough to stop the voting public from believing complete gibberish when it suits their needs, as The Guardian reports nearly one in five Americans believe the Taylor Swift psy-op lie. While Swift is unlikely to sway a hardline MAGA voter away from voting for Trump later this year, her gravitational pull may be enough to swing undetermined voters, or those who simply wish to abstain from voting entirely.
