Legendary pop-rock singer Michael Bolton has canceled all upcoming tour dates, and for good reason. Upon the sudden discovery of a brain tumor in late 2023, Bolton had to undergo immediate emergency surgery and now is on the road to recovery. Fortunately for the “Soul Provider” singer, his surgery was a resounding success, but he still needs time to recuperate before hitting the road again in the future.

Michael Bolton shared the news of this brain tumor surgery on his personal Instagram account just yesterday and seems to be in great spirits. Expressing gratitude for his medical team, family, friends, and fans, his message was one of positivity. Though it remains to be seen when he’ll be well enough to resume performing, he stated that he’s 100 percent committed to accelerating his recovery so he can get back to doing what he does best.

It’s unfortunate that Michael Bolton had to cancel his upcoming tour, but he’s doing so for all of the right reasons. The 70-year-old singer was just months away from kicking off a 14-date tour with international dates before his doctors discovered his brain tumor. As of this writing, it remains to be seen whether ticket sales will honored for future dates, refunded at the point of purchase, or some combination of both.

Since he started actively performing in 1975, Michael Bolton has released 24 studio albums and 35 singles. Nine of his singles have peaked at the number-one spot on either the Billboard Hot 100 or the Hot Adult Contemporary Tracks in the United States. Eight of his albums peaked on the Billboard Top 10.

To date, Michael Bolton has sold over 75 million records. His biggest-selling album, Time, Love & Tenderness, has sold over 16 million copies worldwide.

Though his popularity declined in the 1990s for a short while, Michael Bolton has remained a household name ever since his breakthrough. Most recently, Bolton was seen competing in season 9 of The Masked Singer. Though he was eliminated in the fourth episode, his performance was legendary, to say the least.

Known for his philanthropy, he established The Michael Bolton Foundation in 1993. Later renamed the Michael Bolton Charities, the organization centers its focus on protecting women and children from the negative effects of poverty, as well as emotional, physical, and sexual abuse. He also has close ties to the following organizations: Prevent Child Abuse America, This Close for Cancer Research, the National Mentoring Partnership, and the Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital.

Michael Bolton also knows how to take a joke. In 1999’s Office Space, one of the primary characters had the same name, which was a primary running gag throughout the film. Though the singer was at first upset that the Mike Judge creation was taking shots at his music career, he has since embraced the joke, and even signs DVDs as “the real Michael Bolton” whenever fans ask.

Since Michael Bolton is prioritizing his recovery, we don’t currently know when he will reschedule his canceled tour dates. But by the sounds of it, the tour is only temporarily delayed, and we’ll hear updates on the matter when the singer is well enough to perform again.
